Beautiful Tuscan villa in the hills above Lucca

5 of 5
We rented Villa Segale with two other families for a week this summer. In total we were a group of 11 (6 adults and 5 children under 10) and we were all delighted with our choice which delivered for us on all fronts. The views from inside and around the house are absolutely breathtaking, with the house itself set in a truly peaceful location at the end of a long track. Inside the bedrooms were all comfortable and spacious. The downstairs bedroom and adjoining 'snug' with their large TV/DVD players worked perfectly as a 'down-time' area for the children in our group. Meals were taken outside under the vines around a substantial table which easily seated everyone. From here we enjoyed watching the fireflies buzzing around the vineyard. The large pool was an obvious highlight and it was difficult to drag the children away for trips into easily accessible Lucca and further afield to Barga. Marco and Michaela were both exceptional in terms of communication before we arrived and whilst we were in residence. I would have no issues in wholly recommending Villa Segale.

Terrific Perch Above Lucca!

5 of 5
Campitino da Leonida was everything we hoped it would be. The location is superb. We spent almost all of our time at the house on the veranda overlooking the valley and the other small towns around us. The sounds of birds and the occasional church bell makes for a delightful morning chorus, and the outdoor spaces of the two houses make it very difficult to put down one's coffee and head out for a day of exploring. So a couple of days we just sat and watched the breeze go by while sitting in the sun or lounging beneath the wisteria. The owners were exceptionally friendly and welcoming during the reservation process and very helpful with loads of information about the area. And the house manager is invaluable. She appears exactly when needed, knows the answer to just about anything, and is easily reachable whenever there are questions. She and her team keep the house looking great, and if there is anything that you'd like to do but aren't sure how, all you have to do is ask. We were very happy with the quality of the interiors as well. The bathrooms were well outfitted with excellent showers, and the beds had very high quality mattresses, something members of our party commented on several times. But most importantly, the kitchens were excellent, especially the one in the smaller house. It is very close to the veranda, so we did most of our group cooking in that kitchen. Everything works, we were never crowded, and magically all the food we made in the kitchen was terrific. The produce is amazing in this area. Each town in the area has its own market day, so you can be a nomadic shopper each morning and collect whatever is needed for the evening meal. And if all else fails, you can walk to the village square for some home cooking. We were a group of 10, and at no time did we feel crowded or in each other's way. The layout of the house and grounds is very well done. From the pool to the veranda, the kitchens, the cooking, the eating - our visit was absolutely terrific. We will be back, hopefully as an annual event!

Incredible Hospitality

5 of 5
This is the 3rd time we stayed at this property over the years. It is owned and run lovingly by a local family. The property is peaceful, spotlessly clean, and well-maintained. Owners were extremely hospitable and caring. With horse and sheep in the backyard, grapes and olive trees, you have the feel of a farm, but with the city of Lucca only 15 minutes away, as well the coast and Florence not too far away for day-trips. Owners were just a phone call away and they visited property to clean pool etc., but were never in the way. At check-in we were met by the Owner and given instructions on the house. There was also a box in the Living Area with local maps, attractions, and itineraries. We like to shop at the local markets and cook and the kitchen was well-equipped, including an interior wood-burning pizza oven, multiple types of coffee makers, a full-size refrigerator and a backup one. There is a huge Dining Room table as well as a large dining area outside. I highly recommend this home, for any size group. This time we were 2 families, with a total of 4 adults, and 5 teenager/young adults. The pool area is fully fenced off for small children, and we stayed here when our children were younger as well. There is also a large grassy area in the backyard to play soccer, and 2 mountain bikes. With our 9 total there was plenty of space to spread out. We could have easily accommodated the 15 beds if need with privacy for all. We have rented other properties in Italy and I give this property an Outstanding grade. In summary, I didn't want to leave!
