Campitino da Leonida was everything we hoped it would be. The location is superb. We spent almost all of our time at the house on the veranda overlooking the valley and the other small towns around us. The sounds of birds and the occasional church bell makes for a delightful morning chorus, and the outdoor spaces of the two houses make it very difficult to put down one's coffee and head out for a day of exploring. So a couple of days we just sat and watched the breeze go by while sitting in the sun or lounging beneath the wisteria.
The owners were exceptionally friendly and welcoming during the reservation process and very helpful with loads of information about the area. And the house manager is invaluable. She appears exactly when needed, knows the answer to just about anything, and is easily reachable whenever there are questions. She and her team keep the house looking great, and if there is anything that you'd like to do but aren't sure how, all you have to do is ask.
We were very happy with the quality of the interiors as well. The bathrooms were well outfitted with excellent showers, and the beds had very high quality mattresses, something members of our party commented on several times. But most importantly, the kitchens were excellent, especially the one in the smaller house. It is very close to the veranda, so we did most of our group cooking in that kitchen. Everything works, we were never crowded, and magically all the food we made in the kitchen was terrific.
The produce is amazing in this area. Each town in the area has its own market day, so you can be a nomadic shopper each morning and collect whatever is needed for the evening meal. And if all else fails, you can walk to the village square for some home cooking.
We were a group of 10, and at no time did we feel crowded or in each other's way. The layout of the house and grounds is very well done. From the pool to the veranda, the kitchens, the cooking, the eating - our visit was absolutely terrific. We will be back, hopefully as an annual event!
