Mamma Mia....Perfetto!

5 of 5
After booking this home in February of 2014 and waiting til September to actually go, our anticipation was high...we were NOT disappointed! We have rented homes worldwide from VRBO and Home Away as well as smaller vacation rental agencies and Casa Pergola, her Owners and Hosts, Paul and David, and indeed the whole of Sicily are our Number One Favorite! Previous reviewer, Donna L. describes the home eloquently and everything she writes is exactly as it is. The home is lovingly restored, with every thought given to offer guests comfort. The pool is a delightful-morning, noon and night...(hey guys, the tiles look beautiful!) and we used it everyday we were not swimming in the sea in nearby Cefalu. Yes, while it seems remote, the home is close to everything...I needed a doctor, there she was just a few moments away (thank you, Paul!). We filled the house with relatives including an 85 yo MIL. The home is easily accessible for any age. To celebrate MIL's birthday, Melissa Mangano was arranged to come cook a traditional, seasonal, organic where possible dinner buffet and her food was over-the-top wonderful! If you are lucky enough to book some time here, consider a small tete-a-tete and have her do it. Fantastico! Most importantly, enough cannot be said about Paul and David. You will find immediate friends if you'd like to...they are not imposing if you care for privacy. Every need you have will be filled and more. They will share their histories, stories, friends, food and wine...they share themselves and will care for you. They have created a perfect spot for any type of trip...vacation, honeymoon, recovery, celebratory, exploratory, whatever you'd like your time to be. We cannot wait to return....Perfetto, indeed!

Lovey stay in converted barn

4 of 5
Sympathetically converted barnhouse with lovely sunset views from the terrace. Up a flight of stairs so not recommended for people with mobility issues, although it can be accessed more easily from road above if you have a car. The property is close to the old town and beach so a great spot. It has everything you need to enjoy your stay, although we could have done with another towel each as we had paid for linen but there is a washing machine so we used that a lot. The barn is cosy and well decorated. It is near a busy road and train station, so although you can close the windows to cut out the noise it is not always quiet, but there again most of Sicily is like this! There is an air conditioning unit high on the wall but we couldn't find the remote for it so just made sure we closed the blinds and curtains during the day to keep the sun out. It has rained the day we arrived so there were a lot of mosquitoes, especially outside, so make sure you take repellent. There is a bug repellent plug inside which we used. The best restaurant we went to (and most expensive) was Ti Vitti. It's the first restaurant you come to on the left as you walk down the street to the old town. Incredible food but unless you turn up early you won't get a seat outside so it's best to book. The second best restaurant was La Brace where you can have inexpensive traditional Sicilian cuisine but again you should book as it's very popular. The owner's parents live in the house next door and have a gorgeous Mediterranean garden. We didn't see them but briefly saw the owner who was very pleasant. She uses a local company to manage the property and they are available anytime with assistance and helped to arranged our taxi from the airport to Cefalu when we first arrived. Someone met us after hours to drop off key and show us around the property. The beach is lovely and we also travelled on the train to other towns along the coast. We also got bus up into the Madonie mountains to Castelbueno which we highly recommend for a day trip.
