This was an ideal apartment from which to explore the Emilia-Romagna province. The apartment was spacious, up-to-date, and well-maintained. The few minor problems we had were quickly addressed by the owner.
It's located in a historic building, but has all modern conveniences. The apartment has a master bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a second bedroom with two twin beds. The sofa in the living room, which does make into a sleeper, is not really adequate for sleeping for a prolonged stay. Two cots are provided, and our grandchildren slept on their mats on the floor.
It's a block from the Estense castle and the cathedral. It's a 5 minute walk to Meta market, and restaurants abound in the area.
It's a direct 10 minute bus ride from the apartment to the train station, from which there are direct connections to Venice, Padua, Ravenna, Bologna, and points south.
The only significant problem was the initial presence of sugar ants, which came in from the beautiful courtyard. The problem was easily resolved by spraying the ant mounds in the courtyard, and along the ant trails outside and up the columns to the second floor. This needed to be done about every 10 days to two weeks.
Internet service was excellent and consistent (DSL), and heating was comfortable in early spring. There were a few outages of the cooling as it was getting started up for the summer, but was resolved by the building management within a day. (This is not in the apartment owner's control.)
We really enjoyed the apartment, location, the city, and easy access to interesting places in the region. The weekend markets are phenomenal in their variety and quality.
We were there for Palio month and watched the pageantry, the procession, the flag-dancing competition, and, of course, the ultimate foot, donkey, and horse races. We also witnessed the Mille Miglia, which was an amazing spectacle.
The townspeople were friendly, helpful, and delightful to spend time with. The city's residents use bicycles to get around, as the area is very flat, so remember to look behind you before changing direction.
We highly recommend walking the wall around the city with the local people of all ages.
