We booked La Masseria Terra di Marina for a big family party to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. It was hard to find a place that would be perfect for all the family, from 6 months to 90 years of age but this fitted the bill perfectly. The building itself is magnificent. We wanted and older style stately home feel and this certainly fitted the bill. We have sent the owners lots of our own photos as theirs really don't do the place justice, although I am not sure ours do either. It is a stunning place, and has been very sympathetically restored. I have never seen such a lovely pool. We were inclined to spend the whole holiday by the poolside but did drag ourselves away to the wonderful Ionian coast a few times too. This is a must as these beaches are straight out of a glossy brochure - miles of white sandy beaches and the bluest transparent waters. We all enjoyed some fabulous snorkelling moments, and my grandson captured some lovely fish on his underwater camera. We particularly recommend the Lido Paradiso near CampoMarino, which has the most sumptuous fish restaurant right on the beach. Heavenly!
The Masseria is very large, and although there were 17 of us the place never felt over crowded. We enjoyed lots of wonderful family time together - al fresco meals in the picturesque courtyard, ping pong tournaments, syncronised swimming displays, ice cream tasting contests etc! plus lots of trips into the gorgeous town of Oria. The Masseria is very well located to explore many lovely towns but we were so taken by Oria that we rarely ventured further afield. The town has a very elegant medieval centre with a stunning Frederic II castle, a magnificent cathedral / duomo, a fascinating Jewish quarter and a very rich medieval tradition that seeps out of every crumbling facade. We were spoiled for choice in the miriad of restaurants and gelaterias. We ate out every night as it was possible to do so for less than the price of eating in. The food is truly amazing and so cheap! (ranging from 3 euro for a pizza to 25-30 euro for a slap up 5 course meal). We did stock up in the huge weekly market for our lunches (magnificent local produce) but let the restaurants do the washing up in the evenings! We spent one day in Gallipoli (very pretty) and Lecce (fabulous -a must see) while the more adventurous of our party went to a local water park. Not my cup of tea but they had a ball!
We would heartily recommend the Masseria to anybody. There is something there fo
