Having rented lovely villas in Italy in the past, our expectations were quite high. Villa dei Cipressi met and exceeded them in every way. The villa, the property, the location and, especially, the owners, all combined to make our stay all we'd hoped for.
Our family tends to enjoy cooking at home, so the beautiful, roomy kitchen was ideal. The excellent selection of cooking utensils, herbs and spices, and special olive oils all helped make for a happy cook. The large kitchen table was a cozy spot to gather, but we especially loved dining on the loggia, our very favorite place. Breezy and open, it was the best of being indoors and out, all at the same time. Our group used all the bedrooms and all offered space and comfort. The baths are pristine.
Take time to enjoy the small towns nearby, especially busy little Amelia, and, of course, lovely Orvieto, our favorite. Not much further are towns like Todi and Assisi and Deruta, which offers great ceramics shopping. Falesco vineyards are also close by and the very lovely people there gave us a private wine tasting. It's also an easy drive to the local train station to dash off to Rome for the day.
There were 8 of us in our group, including three older teens. They loved action, but also enjoyed lazing around the large pool and playing bocce. The weather was exceptional...not too hot for June/July...and rained only at night! They loved when their uncle made pasta and we all ate at home like a big Italian family, loving every bite and laughing til we hurt. It was also very convenient to have Al Bearino, a tasty pizzeria, right around the corner.
The owners of Cipressi are right next door and they couldn't have been more hospitable. They stocked the kitchens with everything needed to begin our stay, including dinner for the first night, and were always available to answer questions and offer information. Their kindness enhanced our stay immeasurably.
If you are a small group, do yourselves a favor if you can and rent the entire villa, not just the first two floors. The 3rd floor, where the large kitchen and loggia are, is the area where we spent our days when we weren't out exploring or at the pool. You'll be glad you did.
All in all, I can't emphasize enough what a comfortable, beautiful experience Villa dei Cipressi offers its guests. Quiet, private, yet conveniently located, it truly is perfect in every way.
