Words simply don't do it justice

5 of 5
I simply don't have the words to express what a wonderful experience this was for my family. My husband and I, along with our 10 year old son and 7 year old daughter, spent a week at Williamstadt House. It was, hands down, the best family vacation we have ever had. The house itself is beautiful and the grounds were luxurious even in early spring. To a certain extent we were expecting this based on the photographs we'd seen before we arrived. The real surprise, however, were Carole and Kevin. They were far more welcoming and gracious than we ever could have imagined. They were our hosts, tour guides, historians, and, by the end of the week, our friends. Our children enjoyed their time at Williamstadt House so much that even the Cliffs of Moher couldn't compete. We had to practically drag them away from the house every morning so we could explore the area; if they had their way, they would have stayed at Williamstadt House every minute of every day. The kids loved collecting eggs from the hens and playing with Carole and Kevin's three dogs. My daughter carried poor Sally around like a purse for most of the week and even Sally was gracious about it! My ten year old son and "Mr. Clarke" were great pals by the end of the week. Carole and Kevin went out of their way to make us comfortable and to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Our week went a lot like this: The kids want to visit a local dairy farm? Sure, we'll take you! A boat to Holy Island? No trouble at all! How to find a local artist? We know just the place! Carole and Kevin recommended pubs, castles, caves, tower houses... they suggested activities for us that we hadn't even considered and every single one of them was perfect. I could go on and on and on about what a fantastic week this was for us, but instead I will say this: We have never been so sad to leave a place. There weren't many dry eyes in the car as we pulled away from Williamstadt House, and we traveled most of the way to Dublin in complete silence. There were just no words to express both how happy we were to have spent time there and how sad we were to have to leave. I'm certain we will be back.

An excellent Christmas experience.

5 of 5
My husband, 19-year-old daughter and I spent 4 nights, including Christmas Eve, at the Gamekeeper's Cottage at Williamstadt House. Carole and Kevin went above and beyond anything we expected. Carole provided excellent directions to get us there from Galway and recommended the perfect place for lunch (The Hungry Bookworm in Loughrea) and the best places for buying food and anything else we needed for our stay. They also cut a Christmas tree from their woods and had it decorated and lit when we arrived along with a warm and welcoming fire. We enjoyed coffee and tea in the kitchen of Williamstadt House several times along with wonderful discussions about life in Ireland and adventures we've all had in other places. The pups (Sally, Maggie, and Walter) adopted us--especially Walter who spent all 4 nights with us in the Cottage. We went on walks with Carole and Kevin to see Lough Derg and the woods, visited the pub in town and met many of their friends and neighbors. We had a flat tire before our arrival and Kevin made sure we were able to get a replacement spare even though it was Christmas time. We had thought we would cook a small Christmas dinner for just the three of us. Carol and Kevin invited us to join them and their friends for dinner and we added our small meal to their delicious dinner. We ate an excellent Christmas dinner in Williamstadt House in front of a wonderful fire, drank excellent apple juice made from apples grown on their property and enjoyed great conversation with wonderful people. Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. She loved stoking the fire (peat and wood) and would lie on the couch in front of the fire with Walter, the visiting pup, each night until the fire died down. We all agreed that our visit was perfect. The Cottage is comfortable, the stars are incredible and the quietness is amazing. The area is beautiful and the Cottage and Williamstadt House are amazing. Carole and Kevin are wonderful hosts and I feel like we became friends while we were there. We plan to return in the future. The only complaint I have is that we didn't plan to stay longer this time. Four nights wasn't long enough. We give this experience the highest marks and count ourselves lucky that we found the Gamekeeper's Cottage and Carole and Kevin.
