WONDERFUL WEEK WITH THE FAMILY!

5 of 5
This home is the perfect set up to accommodate a large group but still have space of your own - which every family needs. Open main area with 2 seating areas and kitchen and large deck overlooking the lake. Basement has secondary kitchen and living area leading out to a large back patio complete with shower. Private lake is so quiet we used floaties and swam from one side of the lake to the other. No public access so no outsiders using the water, only owners. Use of the boat was amazing, and the lake is so quiet at night you can hear the frogs croaking in the distance, while you gaze at the stars, which are so bright and clear you can hardly believe it. Perfect beach area for young kids as it stays shallow for quite a distance. My 1 year old and 3 year old loved the access and swam for hours as did the rest of the family. Great stocked kitchen to cook all of our meals, and 2 refrigerators to store all that you need. Flat screen TV's and direcTV and wifi to still give you creature comforts from the city, but spotty cell phone service so you can actually get away from it all. We cannot wait to book again in 2 years. Owners were very pleasant and accommodating. You will truly fall in love.

LOVELY, SPACIOUS HOME

4 of 5
This home on Lake Okoboji is just as charming as the pictures would imply. The kitchen is well-appointed, the bedrooms were comfortable, and there were plenty of comfy places to read and relax both inside and out. The home was just spotless and beautifully maintained. DO NOTE: while there are two TVs on the property, there is no cable hookup. Of course we didn't go on vacation to watch TV, it would have been nice to catch the weather during some pretty stormy nights. There is also no internet access, so don't plan on keeping up with email or streaming any movies. But overall, we very much enjoyed our stay, and I highly recommend the property to anyone who wants to get away from it all, without getting all that far away!

TRULY, A "HOMEAWAY"

5 of 5
This former church was a private residence until recently, when the owners moved to another historic property that they are renovating. It feels as though they had just stepped out the door; furnishings are a mix of antique and contemporary, and we agreed that we felt very much at home. Everything was immaculate and yet very personal. The quilts are beautiful, the sense of history pervasive...but we also enjoyed the Wi-Fi and the dishwasher! About 1800 square feet, there is a bedroom and bath on the main floor as well as living room, full kitchen, and laundry equipment. I scored the gigantic loft bedroom with king-sized bed and its own bath with shower. We selected this rental, in part, because they allow pets. When we stepped into the house, we were disbelieving; it's much nicer than any other pet-friendly property we've found (and we've stayed in a lot of them). If you are seeking a peaceful, relaxing vacation, 'The Church' is perfect. For information about what to do when you are ready to move away from the patio, check out the Villages of Van Buren website. Lots of quaint shops, antiques, crafts, a potter, and some great parks for walking around or a picnic. The owners provided a variety of helpful brochures, and were willing to take the time to tell us more about attractions and the history of the area.
