Blissful experience

5 of 5
My husband and I needed a break to recharge our batteries and chose Villa Shamballa. We have visited Bali a dozen times and wanted somewhere relaxing and away from the usual tourist spots. This villa, only 10 minutes drive from Ubud sounded ideal for just the two of us. The villa was beautiful and overlooked a valley. Even though there was a road opposite, the noise was not particularly intrusive. Facilities and staff were excellent and the meals we had at the Villa were good, We had many delightful lazy days by the pool but also went into Ubud a couple of times and out to nearby restaurants. We would heartily recommend Mozaic for a special evening-the food is divine and not too expensive by Australian standards. There is a list at the villa of all recommended restaurants and spas which is very useful.

Breathtaking, Calming, and Serene

5 of 5
We are still here, my wife and I. Where? Infinity Villa, just outside Ubud, Bali. As a child I learned how to define infinity: “think of the largest number you can imagine; add one.” Here at infinity Villa, the largest number I can imagine is Max. Add one. He owns it, designed it, and caringly attends to all details. Infinity consists of two villas—Bamboo & Lotus—each a mirror image of the other. Excellent architectural design—modern inside and Balinese outside. Constructed of beautiful contrasting materials—stone, slate, wood, pebbles, concrete, ceramic tile—with high ceilings, tall wide windows, skylights, semi-open-air bathrooms (yes two) with delightful shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Each villa is two stories: lower level with a pool outside; upper level with master bedroom and terrace. Not very buggy but there is quality mosquito netting over the bed. Air conditioning, while available, is not necessary. One sleeps with soothing, cool, cross breezes at night and the sound of crickets and frogs from the surrounding fields. Add one! The units are surround by 360° of rice paddies artistically carved with unique irrigation systems as they are all individually owned by local farmers. Breathtaking, serene vistas, dotted with shrines, and banana and coconut trees. So, here we are 20 minutes outside of hectic Ubud. Max can rent you a motor scooter, or you can have his driver take you to town or tour you around. With a caring staff at hand, Max is an attentive owner responsive to all questions and needs. Here is 360° of calming beauty. At Infinity find your dreams, plus one. Arthur from NYC

ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL

5 of 5
We celebrated our 20-year wedding anniversary in July with a five-day stay and a vow renewal ceremony at Puri Naga Toya. We were awed by the pictures of Puri Naga Toya before we arrived, but even we had no idea how wonderful our time there would be. As many people have noted, Puri Naga Toya is a veritable art museum of a home, filled with exquisite antique furniture, paintings, drawings, statuary, rugs - even vintage light fixtures that have been rewired. Puri Naga Toya also sits in the most beautiful ridge top mountain setting one could imagine, surrounded by lush gardens and landscaping. But as many people have also noted, it's the staff that truly makes this place shine. Wayan, Made, Agung, Putu, Dolar and Agung were all, without exception, warm, friendly, and genuinely caring. We chatted about our kids, Bali, the World Cup, the hilariously cute resident Daschunds "Katherine" and "Lisa" (who stay in the back if you're not crazy about dogs) - anything that came to mind. For our vow renewal ceremony, the staff shopped for my flowers, set up temple umbrellas, made fruit offerings, helped me pick out music, showed us how to perform the Hindu Muspa prayers, and even loaned us some of their own clothing items to wear and offering bowls to use. I was very touched when all six of them attended the ceremony in full temple dress, even the night watchman Agung, who was clearly not on duty at 4:00 p.m.! They laughed and snapped pictures and generally seemed to be having as good a time as we were having, which made us even happier. They elevated our day from special to magical. I would also like to extend a special thank-you to Pamela, the owner of Puri Naga Toya (and her husband), for making my decision to stay at Puri Naga Toya so easy. From my very first inquiry to her, Pamela responded incredibly quickly, suggesting people to contact and things to consider for our vow renewal ceremony, sharing her passion for Bali and her wealth of information about the island, communicating with the staff and driver service on our behalf, and overall doing whatever she could to ensure that our experience in Bali would be wonderful. She absolutely succeeded in that. Go to Bali, and when you do, stay at Puri Naga Toya - I cannot recommend it highly enough.
