Villa Acacia in Seminyak Bali

4 of 5
We booked this villa through VRBO working with Steve who was extremely responsive during the booking process. I am not sure though anymore if he is the owner or just managing the property - same property was listed by Ludwig on airbnb. Either way, the villa was lovely and just like the pictures show. Every room was in excellent condition as were the bathrooms. The amenities included down to the sarongs was a very nice touch. Overall we had a very nice stay. The staff very generally lovely and very attentive in the mornings during breakfast. The only thing we found was that after breakfast we would need to go call them from the staff quarters if we needed anything and there was very little initiative from them during the day. For example, checking in on us every now and then while we are in the villa would be a nice touch; we used the washing machine to do our own laundry so while we were out during the day, it would have been nice to have that folded up. Generally there was very little work at the villa after breakfast so these small touches go a long way in enhancing the villa experience. The one item that really left a bad taste though was the booking of a fishing expedition that we did through the villa manager. Before we reached the villa, we had been given a strong recommendation to use Bali Fishing Charters - primarily because they cancelled fishing trips in bad weather or rough sea conditions. During the booking of the villa, we were encouraged to book everything through the villa manager who would get us the best rates. She initially tried to get us to book with her friend but we insisted on Bali Fishing charters. She booked our trip and we went ahead. Unfortunately on the day, the seas were quite rough and half us were quite sick. As a result, the trip was rather wasted - especially given the fact that we paid quite a significant amount for it - $800. That night we contacted Bali Fishing Charters to express our disappointment - especially on the fact that our trip still went ahead under such rough conditions when they are known to cancel. Their response was that they had expressly advised the villa manager Dayu against the trip. Not only that, she had negotiated a bigger commission for herself from the deal. When we discussed this with Dayu, it turned into a finger pointing exercise. Overall - very disappointing to go through this and a terrible way to mar what would have been a perfect experience. I did write to Steve
