The Eagle's Nest is the best experience we have had after 20+ VRBO stays in the states and abroad. We stayed there for 3 weeks. Anne (owner) and on-site personnel (Dennis & Janet) are friendly, accommodating, and genuinely interested in having their guests have a good experience. The shop and restaurant owners in town and nearby towns are also very nice.
We were there primarily to hike the trails in the Selkirks and Cabinet Mountains. We also enjoyed the time in the Kootenai Wildlife Refuge and taking drives on rainy days to nearby towns (Sandpoint, Libby, Yaak River area). In the process, we saw many animals: elk, mountain goat, bald and golden eagles, flocks of white pelicans, moose (bull, cows & calf), golden bears, deer, turkey, osprey, falcon, big-horn sheep, hummingbirds, and other woodland creatures. We saw many rivers, streams, and waterfalls in the lush forests that smelled of pine and occasionally cinnamon.
Equally memorable were the beautiful sights and sounds inside the house or from the porch, looking down on the valley with the Kootenai River down the middle and Selkirks and Cabinets (mountains) on either side of the expansive panoramic view, with bright yellow canola (rape) plants growing in the valleys. We were fortunate to have our first morning feature the huge super moon setting at 5 am. Luckily we had our camera handy! Not quite as fortunate with the camera was trying to capture the July fireworks going into the air right below us on the Kootenai, with the sounds of the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern railroads blowing their whistles in the distance. Honestly, could anyone have arrange a more idyllic experience?
We have been many places around the world and find this the most memorable and enjoyable experience of all. It was a delight for all of the senses and we are counting the days until we can return again.
