Far exceeded our travel expectation

5 of 5
My wife and I traveled with our immediate family of 4 young adults. I choose Langholt after viewing the VRBO picture gallery and property description. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners at a local grocery store in Selfoss and after a warm introduction were escorted to the property. During our 45 min drive eastbound off the ring road and then north into the countryside we were wondering where we were being led. On arrival we were happily surprised by the remoteness and beauty of the property and chateau. Our three night stay far exceeded my travel expectation. The home was spacious, tastefully decorated with high end materials including marble imported from Greece and had large bed rooms and baths and comfortable beds. Selfoss Chateau provided spectacular views of the unique landscape, river, waterfall (via a rugged hike), volcanoes, glaciers and open plains. There were approximately 20 hardy, gentle Icelandic horses and a number of cattle grazing throughout the grass on 250 privately owned acres. We cooked breakfast and dinner and enjoyed gathering at the lengthy dining room table for family conversation. The owners are welcoming and hospitable. My luggage did not arrive for the first four days of travel, we were loaned jackets and gloves to keep us warm and dry. My party of 6 would have enjoyed extending our stay at Langholt, but it was time to move onto Vik. I highly recommend this property.
