We stayed at this house and had a wonderful time. Our group also felt we should be forthright so that other renters would benefit from our experiences. For starters, the owner gave us a link for directions, but they omitted which street to turn on. We found the house after driving around, but if we had arrived at night, we would have been out of luck. Here are the directions: From Reykjavik, take Highway 1 to Highway 35. Turn left on Highway 35. Turn left on Highway 36. Turn right on Highway 351 toward Burfell (dirt road) just past Hotel Grimsborgir. From Highway 351, turn right on “Asabraut” (little green sign). The house is up a small hill on the left. The hot tub was a surprise. The cover was ripped and was being held down with rocks, leaving debris and leaves that we had to clean out. We also filled the hot tub ourselves with a hose from the laundry room. It helps to leave the hose in the hot tub with a small trickle of cold water to regulate the heat. Once we figured out the hot tub idiosyncracies, we enjoyed it almost every evening..but sadly never saw any Northern Lights. The washer and dryer is great, if a little hard to understand. Kalt is cold. Stick with that if you're worried about shrinkage. We re-washed all of the towels as they were scratchy from being air-dried. There are two dryers, and the one next to the washer is just fine. We had hoped to use the guest bedroom outside, but this was impossible. There was a double bed (not a queen) and literally no room for even a suitcase on the floor. The bathroom had a swing door and a tiny sink. Do not count on it for sleeping arrangements unless it’s for a teen wanting space, and they would probably love it. The size of the beds is misleading. There are no queen beds, only doubles with two twin-sized duvets. If you want to snuggle, you overlap duvets, which is a challenge. Also, the king bed is two twins with a thin pillow top-like mattress on top. Because there is a small 1-2 inch gap between bed heights, it will feel like the Great Divide at night. Plus...those individual duvets make it hard to cuddle. This review may sound negative, but -- honestly -- we would come back to this house again. The kitchen is stupendous and the house is modern and clean. The bathroom and double shower downstairs are five-star, hands down. The location is also perfect for sightseeing, with many attractions -- Thingvellir, Geysir, Gulfoss, and Kerio -- nearby. Enjoy!

Absolutely perfect for 3 generations!

This house was amazing, period! It is so private and quiet with no neighbors around, and the all glass provides stunning views. The layout of the house was fantastic as the bedrooms are away from the living area which is perfect for entertaining because it is wide open. The beds were a little too comfortable and the floors were heated. We had great weather and the kids ages 9-13 spent most of the day on the trampoline and the video games in the annex kept them entertained while the adults winded down in the hot tub with amazing sunsets. My mother even said she had a better time in the hot tub than at the Blue Lagoon! We grilled and cooked and had almost everything we needed. There is even 2 fridges. The back gets the sun in the morning and the front in the evening, The grocery store is about a 20 minute drive. We had our parents 50th wedding anniversary at the hotel Grimsborg at the bottom of the hill, which was amazing! Day trips were good 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour to all the places we wanted to see. We had nice walks around the property and for our group of 11, made up of grandparents, children and grandchildren it was perfect. The owners were great too. Would love to go back some day!

Beautiful setting and an amazing owner!

The house and its surroundings were phenomenal. The horses in the back were beautiful and so friendly (just offer them some bread!) We truly enjoyed our visit to Iceland, and staying at Valur's house made it all that more memorable. We could not have asked for better amenities or for a more hospitable host. Valur, the owner, went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The location was fantastic for visiting the Golden Circle. Our kids enjoyed the Selfoss pool as well. We highly recommend this property!
