A refreshingly modern home in a beautiful location

5 of 5
Our trip wouldn't have been the same without our stay here. The owners are very helpful and regularly checked in on us and our stay and provided lots of information and updates (even regarding the weather!). The house itself is a beautiful modern building which is much bigger than the pictures look. The bed in the master bedroom is the comfiest bed I have ever lay in and the north facing window is perfect for watching the aurora dancing as you fall asleep. There is a great homely feeling to the house equipped with all the latest kitchen appliances and a very impressive sound system. The house is only a 20 minute drive from Borgarness and is perfectly isolated for those who just want time to relax in the hot tub after a long day. This rental made our trip and I would challenge anybody to find a better base for double the price of this place. I would like to thank Heidi and her husband for sharing this gem with us.

Excellent cottage and very helpful owner

5 of 5
My family of 4 stayed for a week in Hilmar's nice cottage in December 2014. Prior to our trip, Hilmar responded swiftly to my queries, provided very good travel tips, and even help me negotiate with a car rental company for better prices as he knew this was my first trip to Iceland. Hilmar met us at the airport where I drove following his car to the cottage. On the way, as he knew we would be ravenous after our flight as well as an expected bad weather the next day, he stopped by a supermarket where he waited for us patiently while we picked up some groceries for the next few days. Upon arrival at the cottage, we were amazed with the how well kept cottage was. Northern Lights were also beginning to show when we arrived. In fact, we were fortunate to view Northern Lights from this cottage almost every night. Hilmar provided us with a mobile phone as well to make calls to him. This was helpful because we called Hilmar and obtained good advices to maximize our stay in Iceland, when deep snowfall paralyzed and closed off Reykavik for two separate days during our stay. Location of cottage provided easy access to Golden Circle sights including Kerio. We shopped for groceries in Selfoss, a 15-20 min drive from the cottage. Cottage was warm and cozy, while high winds bellow outside the cottage with temperatures between 0 to -9 degrees Celsius. Hilmar also handed us a shovel in case our 4x4 rented vehicle required, which came in handy. We also catered for a guided Blue Ice Cave tour during our stay, which turned out to be a highlight of our tour in Iceland. Upon our day of departure, due to the unprecedented deep snowfall in Iceland in mid December 2014, Hilmar and his friend, Ingolf, drove a truck to pick us with luggage from the cottage to our 4x4 car. This helped us avoid being stranded in deep snow as an inexperienced deep snow driver. And to further avoid us losing our way to the airport in the dark (few day light hours in winter), Hilmar and his friend had us followed their truck to show us almost all the way to the airport. Truly Icelandic Hospitality! My family was very fortunate to meet sincere people like Hilmar and his friend. I highly recommend this cottage. Thank you so much, Hilmar!

Amazing place, amazing owner!

We came to Iceland for the purpose of eloping, and to take my sister, her baby and her husband (who is Icelandic-Canadian) to see their homeland. My husband and I did much research, our main non-negotiable was breathtaking views. This place did not disappoint! You are right in the middle of the golden circle, the cabin is exactly like the pics but when you finally see it in real life, its like you forgot an the wow-factor kicks in. Bjarni was an incredible host! We had conversed with him on the phone after we made a formal request, sent the money, and later met up with him in Reykjavik when we were out to dinner the night of our wedding. He is extremely thorough. He will provide you with an incredible briefing package, including hidden hot-spots to enhance your adventure. This place is in the middle of nowhere; which adds to the appeal, but you are literally minutes down a deserted road to get to Fludir's grocery store and amenities. We were 3 couples (my Dad and his wife were also there) and one baby viking and it was more than comfortable. In a sentence: Stunning views; excellent hospitality; serene; hot-tub (under the northern lights, and geo-thermally filled and emptied after every use); sauna; private; close to geological attractions and more than one washroom and more than one shower- this is THE place!!! Highly recommended by all my family, would definitely return!!! Thank you Bjarni for trusting us with your beautiful summer house!!!! We had the greatest week!!!
