Perfect place for a large family group

5 of 5
My extended family stayed in this apartment and found it met our needs very well. The apartment was clean, comfortable and spacious. With two downstairs bedrooms and an upstairs bedroom plus a separate television nook with a sofabed, we all (Icelandic grandmother with two adult American children and their families, six people total) all slept very well. Everyone commented that the beds were especially comfortable. Grandmother especially appreciated the elevator in the building. We were able to entertain many friends and relatives in the large common area and reasonably well-equipped kitchen. We did have difficulty adjusting to using the induction cooktop, having never used one before. We also really appreciated the parking space in the garage under the building, although we had some difficulty maneuvering our large SUV in the small garage. There was a lot of tourist information provided to help plan activities. We mostly interacted with Bergur who was very responsive and helpful, including allowing us to take possession soon after our early morning arrival in Iceland. We would definitely stay here again.

Convenient & Quiet Apartment in Reykjavik

5 of 5
This apartment is a renovated basement unit in a private house in a quiet residential section of northwest Reykjavik. The owners are husband and wife, Pall and Dagrun, two of the nicest people you are likely to meet in Iceland. Pall, who also runs an outdoor guide business, provided welcome recommendations for day-trips into the county and for many of the “must-see” tourist attractions. Dagrun generously offered to wash and dry our laundry at their house, when we found the dryer listed with the apartment had been removed for repairs. They also provided us additional towels to take to the swimming pool, which save us the $5 USD rental fee. Pall and Dagrun both have professional day-jobs and were helpful in describing the business climate in Iceland and some of the cultural norms. The apartment has a well equipped kitchen, with dishwasher, which we used mostly for breakfast, because we were traveling almost every day. There are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with 2 singles. It seems ideal for a family with 2 kids, but it worked fine for 4 adults who have previously traveled together. Having unlimited hot water in the shower for everyone is a nice Icelandic benefit. The apartment is located a 5- minute walk from a bakery (good for breakfast pastry or sandwiches) and 2 supermarkets; 10-minute walk from the nearest thermally heated swimming pool (Vesturbaejarlaug); and 15-20 minutes to most of the Reykjavik business area. If you plan to rent a car, Pall and Dagrun offer their guests a 5-seat SUV for $99 USD /day (as of May 2014) with a GPS and you can pick the days you want to use it. This is a Great Deal if you comparison shop. This is not an off-road vehicle, but the all-wheel drive is nice in the rain and on gravel roads. If you are planning to drive off-road in a rental vehicle, I recommend you visit the web site http://icelandreview.com and search for “off-road fine” to decide if it’s worth the risk. We would certainly recommend this apartment because of the owners and its location.

Wonderful Stay & Highly Recommended

5 of 5
We are a family of 4 (2 adults , 4yr old and 2 yr old) who recently returned from our first trip to Iceland. We stayed for a long weekend and had a wonderful time. While described as a very child friendly country & city; traveling with small children we still had to be very sensitive to location, amenities and the accommodation size. The apartment was exactly as described with all we needed. Everyone we met was super nice and extremely gracious especially with the children. The apartment is very centrally located with less than a 10 minute walk to the main shopping street, Laugavegur and other attractions. The apartment is actually on a road that branches near the Hlemmur bus station on to Langavegar and another street (can’t recall name). Since we did not rent a car having the Hlemmur bus station a 5 minute walk away was perfect for local trips i.e. zoo. It is also conveniently located across a small parking lot to a hotel which is was perfect when making airport transfers and tour pick up and drop off arrangements; since tour companies do not pickup or drop off at private residences. Gudmundur and his son were very accommodating and gracious enough to answer all of our last minute questions about the area(location of grocery stores, attractions, restaurants etc.). Most importantly they accommodated us for our early morning arrival from the US. They even had fresh fruit and orange juice upon arrival. We highly recommend staying here and would do so again.
