I booked this apartment for 2 couples for a week in July. I was keen to find an apartment that had a tub, shower, washing machine, because my husband was running the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon. This apartment is in the PERFECT location - tucked away down a quiet side street, but steps away from the main streets (Laugavegur and Skólavörðustígur). A short 5 min walk to the Harpa, the habor and the Sun Voyager. 25 minutes walk to the Central Bus Station (BSI) and about 5-10 minutes Hlemmer, a smaller bus station.
The apartment was very clean and sweet, and had everything we needed - towels, sheets, cooking utensils, spices, foil, toilet rolls, hair dryer, black out blinds, guide books and maps, pots and pans, great oven, dishwasher.... There was endless supplies of hot water from a powerful shower. The hot water smells of sulphur (eggy) but that is normal for Iceland. The beds were extremely comfy and smelled fresh and clean. We all commented on how lovely the beds were. There is one downstairs toilet/sink, and an upstairs toilet/sink/bath/shower/laundry room that is accessed through the upper bedroom. The apartment is very pretty and decorated nicely. It feels very cool with bright colors, art on the walls and lots of books -- hipsters will love it. Non hipsters will love it too, because it is like home and feels very safe and secure.
There is a cafe downstairs (Grái Kötturinn) that serves coffee, eggs, pancakes etc. It smelled good and was always busy. We did not go there as we cooked brekkie everyday in the apartment to save on Kronur.
The apartment does seem pricey - Iceland is expensive in general - but when you arrive you will be so glad you spent the money. Do not hesitate to book it before someone else does!
Other things to note:
Burkni was very kind, helpful and interesting. Thank you so much, Burkni!!
There are 3 cute cats that live in the apartment downstairs - added bonus!
Friday and Saturdy nights will be quite noisy until around 6am as there are bars around. Don't let this deter you from this great apartment, but be prepared for some drunken singing in the streets.
Take a FlyBus to and from the airport.
Bring rain gear - It rains a lot.
Bring a camera - Iceland is breathtaking.
