North shore haven

5 of 5
We spent 5 wonderful nights in Doug and Elaine's cosy home. It was very comfortable with everything you need. Lanai with BBQ and seating was great to listen and peek at the surf. It is in a residential neighbourhood, with a 2 minute walk to the beach, which was swimmable even with big surf. It's an easy drive to Haleiwa for shops and restaurants. Doug and Elaine greet you personally and are welcoming hosts. I would recommend this home to all. I hope to be back!

Great Spot for Families

4 of 5
This review is long overdue. My husband, daughter (at the time 1 year old) and I stayed here for about 2.5 months in 2014 (October-January) while my husband worked in the area. Veronica was amazing. She was very helpful and really bent over backward for us to make the place feel like home. My husband, who I consider a Hawaii snob as he's traveled to most of the islands growing up, loved the area and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. The beach is just one block away, and there is a great park just a bit further down the road. I think it was my favorite family beach on the North Shore. On the other end of the street is a paved multiuse trail I would run on in the evenings. You can bike to Haleiwa but because the multiuse trail does not extend the whole way, and you have to cut though a rotary. It's a little risky if you're doing it with kids. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. At first I wasn't so sure, but we were quick to learn that this has it's own special community with lots of family friendly events. Halloween and New Year's eve in particular were fun times at the park and in the neighborhood. The apartment is well laid out, so despite being small, there was plenty of room for us. It was clean. There was a good amount of closet space. We had to buy some cookware since we were eating at home most of the time. We didn't have any issues with ants, but there were some cockroaches in the bathroom in the middle of the night. That's just part of living in the tropics. As far as negatives, it does get hot in the apartment. Unfortunately, from the way the apartment is situated, you don't get any trade winds, so an air conditioner in the second bedroom would be nice. There isn't any real space to hang up laundry. And there's no lanai, which is would be really nice to have, BUT there is a small view of the beach from the couch! Overall, I think this is a great budget friendly option. I would not hesitate to stay here again!
