Recent Sunset Beach Reviews

Awesome location

4 of 5
Note: this was my first trip to Hawaii. We were 2 families with kids plus one nanny and one in-law (6 adults, 3 kids total). Location: awesome. A house is a couple of steps through the bushes to the beach, and the sea right in front of the house is very calm even on stormish days. A couple of surfing spots are quite close to the house (1 minute drive to Sunset; 4 minute drive to pipeline), but in front of the house it was safe to swim even when Sunset point had big 4m waves. Also, the house is close (2 minute walk) to a nice "cafe" (effectively, food truck with a building; food is good), and is about 5 minute drive from a supermarket. Also, you can enjoy sun setting into the ocean next to the mountains if you walk 100 meters along the beach. The house has a nice patio and a balcony overviewing the ocean -- really enjoyed sitting there. The house is not a top-notch super luxury, but has everything you need to concentrate on sleeping, sunbathing and swimming :) The only problems were the doors: several doors inside the house would require some effort to close, and also several of them did not have locks. We could live with it, but it looks like something which can be easily fixed. Also, at least one bedroom did not have curtains (I felt fine without them, but just FYI). The bottom line: given that this was the cheapest house we could find, I was fully satisfied. Great location, nice views -- totally enjoyed it.

October Birthday Retreat

5 of 5
We had 8 adults, 4 kids with us for an October Birthday retreat, where we would be celebrating about 6 birthdays! The location sits up in the lower hills of Sunset Beach, looking down on the beach area. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to Ted's Bakery, about 5 minutes to Sunset Beach itself. So a really great location for the North Shore. The street is super quiet at all times of the day (House being built next door should be done soon) and night. The property is super well furnished including plenty of kitchen utensils, shampoo/conditioner in every bathroom, towels (Beach and property), beach chairs, bikes, bodyboards, snorkeling gear, hairdryers, etc. Really have thought of it all. The pool and hot tub were clean, and in constant use our whole time there. Parking was very sufficient for our whole group. We had three cars and never had issues getting spots on property. Room for more if needed! We ate on the property pretty much every night, which i guess is testimony to how comfortable we were on the property. We were able to open up all the windows and doors to the house from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. When the winds blew, it really was nice! Beware, you back up to the jungle, and critters become a part of it. Not uncommon to see lizards all over the walls in this environment. The kids loved it! So did the adults. We received great information on activities from the owners prior to our arrival, and definitely utilized that packet a bunch on the trip. The caretakers on property were wonderful and super helpful. Loved Ralph and Ginger. The kids really enjoyed the bunk situation in their room. The theme was awesome! Definitely would recommend this property for groups of all sizes.

Awesome Location for Family

4 of 5
Within a 5-10 minute walk to Foodland & (hmm I think it used to be Starbucks) Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Shark's Cove/Three Tables snorkeling haven, & quick drive to Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck (this time around they tasted better than others) ... as well as a short backyard/alley path to Ke iki beach what more could we ask for? The cottage was convenient, quiet, clean and came with cooler & other items you might need for a day at the beach. And the convenience of packing light because of a washer/dryer?!! awesome. The only thing we could say at that time of the year was that it was humid/hot/no ocean breeze, unfortunately there is only a small air conditioner in kitchen which made for hot nights. Otherwise, having stayed at Turtle Bay on other trips, I'd have to say hand to God no comparison ... We'd stay at the cottage in a heartbeat. mahalo to the owners ^.^
