OUR 5th STAY AND THE BEST ONE YET!

5 of 5
My wife and I have take an annual vacation on the Big Island the past 7 years. Initially we would split our time between Kona and Hilo in B&B's. In 2010 we discovered this little blue beach/cliff house where the ocean in the front yard goes all the way to Mexico. It has the best of the best for what we seek in a Hawaiian vacation. Quiet, away from the noise and crowds yet accessible to shopping, restaurants, superb snorkeling and the best Sunday market on the Island. Even the white sand beaches on the Kohala coast are only an hour and a half away. The Puna district represents what we consider "old" Hawaii where the spirit and traditional way of life co-exists with all the modern conveniences (near at hand). We vacation to "get away" from it all. No cell phones or internet. I only use my phone to find my wife in WalMart or Costco. The owners are wonderful hosts and the property managers are first rate. Would we come again? We will be booking visit # 6 (as soon as the bills for #5 are paid)! Michael M.

Great spot for the North Shore

5 of 5
This is a great location if you're planning to spend time in the North Shore, you can pretty much walk to Haleiwa if you'd like to check out the stores and restaurants, or just bring some food in and enjoy it on the balcony overlooking the ocean. It's a great spot for snorkeling, I accidentally almost ran into Slowpoke (I call him that), he's the biggest of 2 turtles that was hanging out every day right at the front of the house. The other guy Speedy is a little smaller and is probably Slowpoke's offspring. This is a good spot to go during the windy months, since there's no AC, but when we were there, the breeze would keep the bedroom side cool and the fans were helpful. The bathrooms looked pretty new, the two beach chairs which you can use is perfect for when you just want to hang out by the beach. There's a lot of utensils in the kitchen and the flooring is just right for you to walk on without having to bring in any shoes. The hallways do carry sound, so the neighbors know to try to stick to the quiet time of 10pm to 8am, or something like that. It was a good place to start our trip.

Beautiful private getaway steps from the beach

5 of 5
What a beautiful property! The two of us thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day stay at this home away from home. The location is spectacular with lush gardens that create a very private yard with beach access directly across the street. The ambiance was perfect for our much needed relaxing getaway. The beach is close enough to hear the sounds of the waves crashing from the lanai. We hardly saw anyone else on the beach - it was as if we had the place to ourselves, which was awesome. Anini Beach is shallow and protected from the rough water by a reef, making it perfect for kayaking and snorkeling. Cindy and Ross, our gracious hosts, provided all the gear (even chairs, beach towels, an ice chest and an umbrella!). We hardly needed anything other than swim suits and sandals - they made it so easy. The first day out we discovered the kayak was our favorite for cruising along the beach and saw several turtles after just a short time in the water. We also love to cook so thanks to the clean, fully appointed kitchen and the gas grill on the lanai, we were all set up. Cindy and Ross were also kind enough to share some fresh papaya, Ahi, and Mahi Mahi with us - fish they caught themselves! With a grocery store nearby, eating in was really easy. Although we felt this was a great place with more than enough room for the two of us, could easily accommodate a large group. The large dining table and kitchen island bar would seat 8+. The layout of the house could also provide some privacy for larger groups - it has an open concept living/dining room area that separates a bathroom and two bedrooms at on one end of the house from the master bed/bath on the other end. Other perks like the outdoor showers to wash off sand and the washer/dryer also came in really handy. Since this was out first time on Kauai, we asked Cindy and Ross for some recommendations, which they were more than happy to provide. Their suggestions helped us plan a great day trip to the south shore of the island with stops in Kapaa and Poipu on our way to Waimea Canyon. They also suggested other great North Shore beaches at Princeville, Hanalei Bay, Tunnels, and Ka'a just down the road. It's really a great location to the North Shore. We had everything we needed to make this an awesome trip and would love to come back again. Mahalo!!
