Lives up to the property description in VRBO!

5 of 5
My husband and I have visited Hawaii maybe twenty times - I've lost count - and this condo definitely rates at the top. It is very well decorated and furnished. We cooked almost every night and I didn't find anything lacking in the kitchen. I really appreciated the rice cooker. We bought some really nice fish at the nearby Foodland Market to grill. Christine left salt and pepper, oil, and some seasonings in the pantry. That is very nice. You wouldn't believe the number of condos that don't even have salt! The view in the back isn't as bleak as the pictures might depict. There were a variety of birds living there. There were some partridge type birds that make really odd calls and some bright solid yellow finches called saffron finches. We had a full moon setting out there. We mostly relaxed, but spent one night in Hilo to visit the volcanoes. It made a much less hectic trip since it's about two and a half hours to Hilo and we got to the volcanoes before the busses. Don't miss the art gallery at the visitor center. We didn't eat out much, but there are a lot of wonderful restaurant s in the area. We had two wonderful lunches at Merriman s in Waimea. We had a nice lunch at the lodge on Kilauea volcano. Shopping for groceries is much easier in Waimea and The Kings Shopping center. We went to Safeway in Kona, but that was a hassle with traffic and distance. There's a Longs Pharmacy in Waimea. We definitely would rent this house again, and probably will. Christine, the owner, is very nice, and Robin, the property manager is very nice, efficient, and accommodating.

Comfortable, Quiet, Beautiful

5 of 5
We spent 8 nights in this condo. It was beautifully furnished and maintained, and the kitchen was well-equipped. We loved sitting at the table out on the balcony overlooking the golf course. What a peaceful place! This second-floor unit can be reached by elevator and the rental includes a dedicated parking place. The owner responded quickly to questions and was a pleasure to do business with. We would definitely recommend this property. The Fairway Villas complex is clean with high quality amenities like a bank of new-looking Weber gas grills, a beautiful infinity swimming pool and an open-air exercise room. The location is excellent for walking to the Queen's Marketplace and King's Shoppes for light grocery shopping, upscale clothing/gift shopping, and dining choices from fast food to fine restaurants.

Quiet, Convenient Condo - great value vacation

4 of 5
Puako is my idea of a perfect place to stay. It's small and charming, with a quaint country store and walkable streets. Why stay in a cookie cutter resort? This condo is typical of the time it was built, unpretentious and comfortable. Although unit is on the first floor, it is very quiet and the shrubs shield the lanai so it doesn't feel exposed (just ask the gekkos). Having 2 full bathrooms is a big plus. The small galley style kitchen is well equipped (I'd love to see a liquid measuring cup,but that's just me). The condo has a closet of assorted beach gear to use and lots of towels. The washer & dryer came in handy and we used the gas grill daily. Bedrooms all have ceiling fans. (NOTE: keeping sliding doors and entry door open allows air to flow freely and condo stays cool ) The condo bldg has a great pool or you could walk a few minutes to access Puako bay for swimming and snorkeling. The building has recycling bins (yeah!! - I love to recycle - feels like home) Bonus feature: building has its own lemon, lime, and grapefruit trees and we were lucky enough to get some of the fruit. Puako is centrally located and we easily drove up and down the coast for touring , beaching (Hapuna and A' beach), and shopping. I highly recommend going to the local fish market in Kawaihae ( on Hgwy 270, about a 10 minute drive) and across the street from the fish market is Avenue Shave Ice, the BEST shave ice we found on the island. The condo owner is very nice to work with and takes time to make sure instructions and everything are in order. She even called me by phone to answer my questions directly rather than play tag with email. It's chancey to rent off the web, but Karen is trustworthy. I'm saving my pennies to go back there.
