So beautiful and a great place to relax.

5 of 5
Wow, this was a nice place! This has to be one of the most unique properties with VRBO. Having a very nice cottage with a scenic view of a pasture and trees, a splendid view of the ocean, their own waterfall (and bench to sit and watch), creek with banana trees, pool and hot tub, exotic rambutan fruit in season, and the most personable and helpful hosts, Keala and Steve, one couldn't ask for any place better in order to relax and use as a base of travel. We were so glad that we chose the Hilo area rather than the western side of the island. Hawai'i is small enough that we circled the island during our stay in addition to cutting thru the Saddle Road (Hwy 200) in the center. We enjoyed the variety of inexpensive Thai (fell in love with the food!), Vietnamese, and Japanese restaurants in Hilo. There are many traditional ones there, too. Sights close by include waterfalls, the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, a black sand beach (Richardson's Beach Park), and Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Above all, be sure to schedule some time just to sit and relax at the cottage. We sure hope to come back one day!

Perfect for a relaxing stay in Hilo

5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners are very welcoming and helpful with advice on activities and restaurants. They are warm and willing to share and respectful of your privacy. The apartment is well located; out in the country on the Hamakua Coast but 10 minutes to downtown Hilo. Describing the view as stunning is a disservice. You can watch beautiful sunrises over the Pacific, cruise ships navigating Hilo harbor and even the Pu'u O'o vent steaming in the distance. The apartment is well equipped with beach towels, and a well stocked kitchen. This is a great place for a relaxing stay in Hilo. Aloha.

Had a very nice time!

This is a great studio room for a single or couple. I had a very enjoyable stay and Christine was very sweet and made me feel very welcome. The dogs and cat were also very friendly! You also get a nice ocean overview from the generous number of windows. You are only a few minutes from downtown Hilo and the Botanical gardens are pretty much right on the other side of the highway. Akaka falls is not far away either. This room is in a portion of the main house, and it was nice and quiet, 3 miles off the highway up at the end of a drive. I got the impression that the room is a labor of love in progress...there are some incomplete portions (like the concrete floor, which I assume will get finished soon), but most of the work is finished nicely. You can currently do a little cooking in the room if you want, however the planned outdoor kitchen should be very nice when it is finished. (I felt right at home anyway--I've got projects going on at home too!) I hope to visit again once the work is complete!
