We stayed for two weeks in June of 2014 at Pat's at Punaluu and had the best time. We hope to be coming back very soon! Punaluu offers the lush beauty and rural feel of Kauai, while still giving you access to Oahu's great landmarks! A must stay for anyone who wants to stay on Oahu, but doesn't want to stay in the crowded area of Waikiki or dry area of KoOlina.
This unit is a large size 1 bedroom unit that is brilliantly furnished and decorated providing plenty of room for my family of 5 (three kids, ages 17, ,15, & 9). The unit includes a king size bed in the room, a Murphy Bed (Queen Size) in the living room, and two additional futons stored under the Master Bed (King Size), which fit nicely in the living room, without disrupting any of the dining, or couch areas.
Punaluu is located on the prettiest side (North East) of the Island. The drive to the place from Honolulu is only 45 minutes. If you miss this drive, you missed Hawaii. Many of the sites along the way, are straight out of the movies and are some of the best Hawaii has to offer. The unit we stayed in was a first floor walk out to the beach, which made it easy to BBQ, refill your Mai Tai's or retrieve any thing you need for a fun day at the beach (just steps from the condo). Wow! Nice Beach with very calm conditions, making it a great swimming beach for kids! Unlike other places further up the North Shore, this place is more centrally located, making the Windward Side of the Island, the North Shore, and Waikiki accessible within a 30-45 minutes drive. The Windward Side offers the Sandbar at Kaneohe Bay (a great sailing / snorkeling excursion), world famous Kailua and Lanikai Beaches, as well as plenty of farmers markets to retrieve island grown produce, banana breads, and other island treats at a discount from local grocery stores. The North Shore drive offerred world famous surfing beaches, a great snorkeling destination (i.e., Sharks Cove), and plenty of Shrimp Trucks and Plate Lunch offerings (Local Food). What would a trip to Oahu be without a day in Waikiki? There is a reason why Waikiki is so crowded? Its awesome and everyone knows it. Still, it was nice to be able to retreat back to my rural Punaluu condo after an exciting day surfing in Waikiki.
Coming Back Soon! Definately!
