Charming Cottage Perfect Location

5 of 5
We so enjoyed staying here. The cottage is well located 1 1/2 miles from Kaunakakai and between Molokai Shores and Hotel Molokai. It is on an ancient Hawaiian Fishpond - a sacred site. The house is very nice indeed with lovely views and beautifully maintained gardens. The neighbours and groundspeople are very friendly, in fact everyone on Molokai is friendly and you will soon know people by their first names. The owner is very pleasant and helpful. You will need a car or if you are fit a bicycle to get around as it is a 25 minute drive or 1 hour cycle (on gorgeous coastline) to the East End Beaches (20 Mile Beach etc) and 50 minute drive or 2 hour cycle to the amazing Halawa. It is better to be near Kaunakakai as it is close to all the shops and restaurants - and there are some good ones - the Pizza Cafe, Elsa's, The Store House, The Cookhouse and Coffees of Hawaii; the pub is also not bad, and Hotel Molokai is fun at the Aloha Friday jam...There is a new restaurant opening there in Feb 2015. We loved Molokai and look forward to returning :)

Lovely studio in romantic & beautiful setting!!

5 of 5
My husband and I went to Molokai for the 1st time and fell in love with both Molokai and this lovely studio. Molokai is totally unspoiled and this far western stretch of the island has dramatically beautiful beaches and scenery. The studio is situated in an attractively landscaped compound and looks over a grassy field that slopes gently down to the beach where in the winter big waves crash onto the shore. Wild turkeys and peacocks roam this park-like setting and all you can hear are the birds and the sea... very romantic. The condo is well-equipped with a good kitchen, attractive bathroom, cable TV and outdoor lanai. Having a washer/dryer and dishwasher to use as well as a large refrigerator is fantastic. On the grass lawn is a grill that we used to cook the fresh fish we bought in the Friendly Market in town. The controls on the grill are on the outside of the structure facing the studio. If the waves are too big to swim in right here, you can drive 4.5 miles to the Dixie Maru beach which is a well-protected cove with calm waters. To get there, continue right on Kalua Koi road outside the complex and at the T junction turn right on Pohakuloa Road to the end. There is a fresh-water shower at the end of the parking lot. No restaurants at this end of the island but in town we had good meals at Elsa's Kitchen and the Paddlers Inn. At mile 20 beach on the western end of the island is a beautiful beach with a large coral reef in front. Decent snorkeling but very shallow so you need to find out when high tide comes in to navigate it more easily. The little market at mile 16 has wonderful snacks, we particularly liked their mussel poke; it was real cheap so we bought tons of it. Saturday morning there is a fun market in town with good jewelry, t-shirts etc. Back at the studio... you can swim in their very quiet and lovely pool on the northern part of the complex. It wasn't heated when we were there but still swimmable. You can look down from the pool area and watch the surfers on the big waves; we really enjoyed that too. The complex has a general store with tons of useful and fun things in it. We just loved Molokai and will definitely stay in this studio again. We'd like to take a boat ride to do more snorkeling and check out the north part of the island next time. This place is a REAL GEM!!!

Very peacful and relaxing

The cottage was very clean and neat and the grounds were beautiful. The caretakers James and Lauren were perfect. They gave us plenty of privacy but they were there when we needed them. Molokai is a peaceful and relaxing getaway, which was what we needed.
