wonderful beach

5 of 5
This is a wonderful beach location. The beach is secluded and sheltered, with beautiful calm water offering easy swimming and snorkeling right off shore. Surrounded by mountain views, the ample yard is full of tropical foliage, roosters, chickens and cats. Though on the main road, once in the yard you feel far from civilization. Great hikes, into mountains are within a few minute walk and there's lots of food trucks and easy access to North Shore beaches a short drive away. The house is older, clean and spacious enough for 4 adults and a child; but somewhat shabby in furnishings, screening, etc. The caretaker, Dusty, is very responsive, informative and easygoing. He went out of his way to answer our few requests, etc. The real-estate manager, Alison, was also excellent to work with, always timely in her response including quick refund of deposit. We'd stay here again!

Perfect for a Peaceful Getaway

5 of 5
Like the title says, it is a perfect place for a getaway. The owner and property managers were very friendly and answered inquiries quickly. The property managers, Martha and Keld, were nice and very helpful. We stayed in the little studio apartment (there are two other properties managed by Matha and Keld) which was perfect for the two of us. The place was clean and looked to be recently renovated and very recently painted. The building itself looked to be built in about the 1980s but the renovations brought it up to date. Sunrises are absolutely amazing...we found ourselves turning in early each evening so that we could see them! Grocery store within about a mile....ask Martha for the grocery card to save some $. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything a couple would need - we actually ate in most evenings, sitting on the porch, looking at the ocean. La'ie is very quiet, about an hour drive from HNL but a world away from Honolulu. Plenty to see within an hour drive up the North Shore...whale watching, Dole Plantation, snorkeling at Turtle Bay, surfer watching at the Pipeline, etc. Even though this was right across the street from the Polynesian Culture Center, we had no problems with noise or traffic during our entire stay. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a nice, reasonably priced, quiet place to stay and see the real Hawai'i with a much different flavor than the 'big city, big resort' feel of Honolulu.

Great home/relaxed stay!

5 of 5
Just spent 6 days here which were wonderful! I want to write about things that I didn't see in other reviews. First, the owners were great to work with! Everything was in order and worked great. The home is off kam highway so the only thing you hear is the waves below you. We spent many hours on the lanai just waking up to the waves and relaxing while we surfed on the wifi. The garage really did have everything you'd need at the beach--snorkling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs, etc. Don't bring anything until you see what you need. At foodland they have anything else that may not be there. Or if you want new, a snorkling set was around $25. Since it's the winter we went to turtle bay and snorkled there at Kuilima Cove. It's protected even against the big winter waves. Plenty to do away from Waikiki--PCC within 5 min, kualoa ranch ATV tour, and of course Pearl Harbor, Aloha stadium swap meet, and dole whips! The beach is about a 5 min walk and pretty serene and quiet. The washer and dryer worked well and were welcome halfway through so you only have to pack half your clothes. Hit costco on your way there and you'll be good! No air conditioning but since you're right on the beach the tradewinds are constantly cooling you. I don't think we broke a sweat the whole time. Thanks again! We hope to be back!
