Your Private Paradise Hideway

5 of 5
If you are looking for a very nice place to stay while visiting Kailua-Kona, I strongly suggest staying with Wendy and Harry at their Tropical Vacation Paradise. When we walked in both my wife and I felt like we where home. The unit is located on the mountain side above Kailua-Kona with a beautiful view looking out over the ocean. My wife and I loved being able to go sight seeing and traveling around the Big Island and knowing that at the end of the day we were able to return to our private hideaway and enjoy the peace and quite and unwind from the days events. If you don’t feel like eating out and you need a nice home cooked meal there are grocery stores just down the hill where you can pick up food and with the full kitchen and bbq you can make a home cooked meal. You can set on your private lanai and watch beautiful sunsets and listen to the wild turkeys gobble as they roam through out the orchard. I really enjoyed sitting on the lanai early in the morning having a great cup of Kona coffee and watching the orchard come alive. As far as feeling safe, I felt safer being at the unit than I did walking around some of souvenir stores downtown. We slept with the doors and windows open feeling completely safe and knowing that all the neighbors watch out for each other. If you did not know where the house is located you would never find it. That in its self makes you feel comfortable knowing there are not any strangers walking around. If you are looking to extend you vacation by couple days, I would suggest staying in this wonderful place and you can then use the money you saved on lodging to enjoy a few more days of paradise on the Big Island. We have suggest to numerous friends and family members that when they visit Hawaii they need to stay at this Tropical Ohana. If you need a larger place to stay, I would also like to suggest you check out Wendy and Harry’s Kona Lighthouse which sleeps up to 10 people. It is located near the coast and is just as nice as the mountainside hideaway.

A beautiful home!

5 of 5
We loved staying at Hale Mele Kohola. It was our first time (me, my wife, our 17yo daughter and her friend) to Hawaii, and the view that greeted us when we drove down to this location was absolutely breathtaking. The place was very large and more than suitable for us (although perhaps two single beds in the second bedroom may have been better), with everything we needed. The view from the Lanai was spectacular, and this was where we ate and socialised a lot of the time. Breakfast was particularly memorable, though it seems we were one of the unfortunate few who didn't see any whales from there in our 5 days! The place is well stocked with books, maps and suggestions as to where to visit. The only negative (which admittedly for some wouldn't be) was its distance from Kona and any good eating options. Given we had never been to Hawaii we were forever driving here and there and so its distance was a bit of an issue, but I can see where this wouldn't be an issue for some. Nanette was particularly friendly and helpful. Oh, and the driveway is rather steep for a large SUV, but we did manage it, you just have to take it slowly!!!

Beautiful and Relaxing

5 of 5
From the moment that we drove down the driveway to the home, I knew that we were in for a real treat. As we entered in the front door, there was a water fountain, and just the sound of the welcoming water was awesome, I really liked that. The home was beautifully decorated, I just love what the decorator did with the grand-father clock. Cool!!! The most awesome bathroom I've been in for a long time, the jetted tub, and the double headed shower were a plus. That bathroom rocked! During our week's stay in the home, we cooked, cleaned and just relaxed. Our children loved going out on the lanai to look at the view, we had such a wonderful view of the ocean. The home is nestled in a quiet neighborhood, where people just kept to themselves. The grounds were well kept and just emaculate. I really enjoyed the mango tree. I love that the wash room is kept outside. I am also grateful that the owners had beach chairs for us to use at the beach, this is a must if you plan on going to the beach day after day with 3 busy children. Our family travels to Hawaii about every 2 years, and we will definately call the owners and rent this home again! Also, I am so glad that the turn off for the neighborhood was just right of the 11, very easy to find and to get to. 2 thumbs up. or should I just give the Shaka sign and say ALOHA!!!!
