A quiet oasis..... just what I needed

4 of 5
I enjoyed my stay at this condo and was fortunate to find it available for 16 days, as I was not in a position to book until December. The unit is spacious, clean, reasonably well equipped, particularly in linens and well situated in the resort. I have stayed at Kanaloa on two previous occasions and am eager to return. I would caution however, that anyone with mobility issues will find the bathrooms a challenge in this suite, particularly the master ensuite . This was not a problem for me, but I still felt safer in the second bathroom shower as the step into the tub is not as high. The owners were easy to deal with, and I had no major issues during my stay. What I did have I reported and had their assurance they would be addressed for the next clients.

Beautiful, peaceful Hawaiian retreat

5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at Hale Mele Kohola -- it just wasn't long enough! This is a lovely home perched in a hillside community about 45 minutes south of Kona. We had spent the first few days of our vacation staying in Kona, and were very happy to escape the crowds and big resorts at this lovely, quiet spot where you really feel like your'e in Hawaii. We knew we were someplace special when we walked in the door and spotted a large bowl of tasty local fruit, a beautiful Hawaiian floral arrangement and lovely artwork on all the walls. The well stocked kitchen was much appreciated , allowing us to cook the amazing variety of local seafood and produce and enjoy our meals on the spectacular lanai. We were fortunate to visit during a peak whale activity period, and saw whales every time we looked out over the sea! Everything about the home is comfortable and it has clearly decorated with much care and love by the owners. It is very clean and well maintained. There were only two people in our party, but this house is set up perfectly for two couples, or a small family. We found this location to be a very good starting point for exploring the Kona Coast area and the south and east side of the island, and Mauna Loa volcano. Some of the best of the best snorkeling on the island is to be found in some of the bays just north of the house. We enjoyed beach days and snorkeling at Ho'okena, Napo'opo'o and Keauhou Bay. On our visit to the volcano, a hike through the crater was fascinating and one of the highlights of the trip. Another highlight was snorkeling with spinner dolphins. We went on a guided trip with Dolphin Discoveries (a small and friendly company) and swam with large groups of dolphins circling around us. Lastly, our host Nanette is just lovely. We communicated several times before the visit and she was always quick to respond and extremely helpful, providing all the information we needed, along with many tips on how to best enjoy our vacation.

Oasis in bad weather

5 of 5
We had the misfortune of being on the Big Island during an abnormal weather pattern, but the condo was an oasis in the storm. Huge lanai, kids sand toys, beach chairs, and some inflatable tubes were there. The turtle beach next door never failed to disappoint. The owners, Dennis and Sherron, were a pleasure to deal with and attentive to any questions we had, more so than any other condo owners that we have dealt with in the past. If they didn't know the answers to our questions, they found out. Great condo reference book on site. The unit is right on the water, so expect some minor issues attendant to the location (everything needs to go in the fridge, otherwise the ants will come out; one time a gecko got in). We recommend the Sea Horse farm, Snorkeling with Manta Rays on Hawaiian Oceanic, and the Dolphin Experience for kids. As far as food, Da Poke Shack is walking distance, although we preferred Umeke's in town. There is no barbecue at the condo, so plan accordingly.
