Fabulous Vacation

5 of 5
The house was easy to find with the direction provided. The path from the circular drive leads to a Koi pond by the front door. Keys were in a lock box and easily accessed. The home is high on the mountainside overlooking the beautiful pacific. We spent most of our time on the lanai and enjoyed watching the birds and whales breaching below. The weather was sunny, in the 80s every day with a beautiful breeze. A few mosquitoes at dusk, but nothing major. We watched the sunset over the ocean from the hot tub. The house itself is spacious and spotless. The pictures don't do it justice. There are two master suites with king beds, one upstairs and one downstairs. Both have huge bathrooms. There are two queen bedrooms with a shared bath, and a queen sofa bed in the den. We ate most of our meals on the lanai, where there is seating for 16. The kitchen is beautiful, although we did find there were a few tools missing that one might expect in a gourmet kitchen, such as a garlic press, Chef's knife, barbeque brush, and griddle. There is a media room with comfy recliners where we enjoyed watching the Patriots win the playoffs! There were beach towels and a lunch cooler provided. There is an additional guest room across the Koi pond if needed. The home is a bit out of the way (which is just the way we like it). It was about 40 minutes to Kailua Kona, 20 minutes to Waimea, 2 hours to Volcano, 10 minutes to Hapuna Beach. There is a small market close by, but better to do your main grocery shopping in Kona. There is so much to do on the Big Island. We went on a fishing charter, The beaches of course - Hapuna Beach and Waialea Bay Beach (Beach 69), Tide pools and sea turtles at Puako Beach, Pololu Valley lookout and hike down to black sand beach, Mauna Kea summit tour to see the observatories and stargazing - the skies are amazing!, snorkeling at Honaunau (Two Steps), shopping in Kailua, night snorkeling with manta rays (not to be missed!), Volcano National Park, Hiking Kilauea Iki, Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour over the volcano, Akaka Falls State Park, and Waipio Vally. And then of course, sitting on the lanai with a good book! Jenny & Mark were great were prompt with communication. We had a minor issue with the WiFi and they were easy to reach and very responsive. I would definitely recommend this home!

Views Can't Be Beat

Overall we had a wonderful stay in this house. Our vacation was a bit over shadowed by the hurricane's this past summer. The owner had a care taker on island who was very helpful in getting us prepared for the [what turned out to be a non-event] and sharing evacuation details with us. That being said this house might not be for everyone…I will break down the pros/cons. Pros.. --Location was perfect. Short easy drive to town, right on the ocean with a swimmable beach less than 5 minutes walk away. --It easily accommodated our party of 8. --We had beautiful ocean views and could watch the sea turtles right in front of our house. --Kitchen was adequately equipped. --Lots of outside furniture. --Owner was very responsive and easy to work with. --Price was incredible for what you got and the location. Cons… --Windows were showing wear and tear from all the sea salt [some couldn't really be opened/closed] --The worst part was only having AC in bedroom and not one in the common living area. The hurricane made it hotter and muggier than normal, but we had to close the windows every time we left so it got pretty hot. Although all the rooms had fans and it did cool of some at night it was uncomfortable, particular in the separate mother-in-laws bonus room. In all fairness we knew the place didn't have AC throughout, but I thought the trade winds would do a better job of cooling the place down. --There was a small mix-up regarding having the place ready for our check-in. The owner quickly remedied this and refunded us the first night because of this delay.
