Nirvana with papaya

5 of 5
We had a conference at Hapuna Prince but wanted something more homey than a resort. Lokilani was idealic. Great location only 5 miles away from the beach and Waimea. Cool breezes and peaceful surrounding coupled with incredible night skies made for a perfect getaway. You have easy access to anywhere on the island. We hiked at Polopu beach, the calderas at Volcano national park and Kalopa State park. Snorkeled at Hapuna beach (thanks to Matt having gear). Dined at Merrimans, Village Burger and Luna in Waimea. Also had a great meal at Jackie Rey's and at the Seafood Bar nearby. We even managed to attend the 4 days of our conference. And always came "home" to Lokalani. We look forward to coming back. Mahalo

Views Can't Be Beat

4 of 5
Overall we had a wonderful stay in this house. Our vacation was a bit over shadowed by the hurricane's this past summer. The owner had a care taker on island who was very helpful in getting us prepared for the [what turned out to be a non-event] and sharing evacuation details with us. That being said this house might not be for everyone…I will break down the pros/cons. Pros.. --Location was perfect. Short easy drive to town, right on the ocean with a swimmable beach less than 5 minutes walk away. --It easily accommodated our party of 8. --We had beautiful ocean views and could watch the sea turtles right in front of our house. --Kitchen was adequately equipped. --Lots of outside furniture. --Owner was very responsive and easy to work with. --Price was incredible for what you got and the location. Cons… --Windows were showing wear and tear from all the sea salt [some couldn't really be opened/closed] --The worst part was only having AC in bedroom and not one in the common living area. The hurricane made it hotter and muggier than normal, but we had to close the windows every time we left so it got pretty hot. Although all the rooms had fans and it did cool of some at night it was uncomfortable, particular in the separate mother-in-laws bonus room. In all fairness we knew the place didn't have AC throughout, but I thought the trade winds would do a better job of cooling the place down. --There was a small mix-up regarding having the place ready for our check-in. The owner quickly remedied this and refunded us the first night because of this delay.

Amazing property for a family celebration

5 of 5
We rented the house for a special birthday celebration with the whole family: my husband and I, our 3 adult children and their partners, plus my elderly mother. It was perfect! The large well-appointed kitchen, dining areas (inside and out) plus gas grill were great for communal meals and great conversation. Bedrooms and bathrooms inside the house were luxurious (and accessible for my mother's limited mobility); separate 2 bedroom cottage was very comfortable (although hot during our visit - more fans would help). Spectacular sunsets, turtles basking on the shore, and some of the best snorkeling on the island right out front in Puako Bay! It's a little tricky getting into the water from the house, but several amazing beaches are right up the road for the less adventurous. We try to get to the Big Island every year and would definitely bring a large group to the Turtle House again!
