Celebration Vacation

5 of 5
This house was the perfect place to stay while we celebrated completing our visits to all 50 states, the year of our 40th anniversary, and retirement. We brought our family of 5 adults and 3 children to vacation with us, and this house was great and very spacious. We had everything we needed for preparing breakfast and some lunches. The kitchen was very well equipped. We enjoyed eating most meals that we prepared outside with the beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. Loved hearing the waves crashing and watching the tides roll in and out. There was always some kind of activity in the water: paddle boarders, boats, rowers, swimmers, and lots of sea creatures. We saw several sea turtles, lots of fish, some dolphins, and even a giant eel right below the sea wall. At night, the surf light gave kind of a surreal effect to the waves crashing. The resident lizards made their presence known, and we were okay with that knowing they were keeping the insect population at bay. Yes, there were bugs, but this is a tropical island. Rental car is a necessity since it is away from shopping and sites. We traveled all over the island in the week's time. Most everything is within a day's drive there and back. Make sure you get the patio doors fastened top and bottom. They are kind of tricky to make sure they are completely latched. This was a very comfortable stay, and we are were happy with our choice to stay at this house. Everything in the pictures and description is accurate.

Peaceful Retreat

5 of 5
We stayed at the Lokilani for 9 nights to celebrate our anniversary and couldn't have found a more perfect place. The cottage itself is absolutely beautiful and very well taken care of. It is evident that much love and thought were invested in creating a place of quiet retreat. Located in the Waimea Valley, you will be nestled into the soft hills with the most amazing views. There are bountiful herbs growing right outside the main entry and Matt will welcome you with kindness and generous offerings from his garden, not to mention eggs from his sweet chickens. You are a very scenic 10 minute drive from some of the most beautiful beaches we encountered on the island, as well as Waimea town, where we found yummy gluten free breakfast bars at the local coffee shop! You will have everything you need provided for you in this home, and Matt was a phone call away whenever we needed anything. We drove all around the island and spent 2 days on the Volcano side, immediately missing the special calm of Waimea. It has certainly become our favorite part of the Big Island and largely because of our experience staying at the Lokilani. Favorite restaurants nearby include the Red Water Cafe, Blue Dragon Musiqarium, and Seafood Bar! Highly recommend the same guidebook listed: "Big Island Revealed" for useful tips. Our favorite activities included visits to the Waipio Valley, numerous beaches recommended in the guidebook (including Punalu'u or Black Sand Beach where sea turtles are frequent, tide pools at Wawaloli Beach, and our favorite swimming beaches minutes from the cottage - Hapuna & Mauna Kea Beach next to each other). Also recommend the dolphin swim & nighttime manta ray snorkel with Coral Reef Adventures - absolutely magical!!

Absolutely fantastic!!

5 of 5
We had the pleasure of staying in your beautiful home for 7 days in March and cannot begin to thank you enough. The house is perfectly set up to accommodate a larger group. There were 8 adult in our group and each couple felt as though they had their own private space, not to mention spectacular common space. The gourmet kitchen, pool and outdoor bar area were perfect for gathering together and socializing. The house is equipped with everything you need to enjoy your vacation from beach towels and chairs to boogie boards and bikes. The house was immaculate when we arrived, the pictures cannot capture the beautiful views from this house, it is breathtaking. Communication with the owner was a breeze. I hope that we can gather the same group and book your beautiful house for next year. Thank you again it was a trip we are soon not to forget! Mahalo!
