A Great Family Getaway

5 of 5
We chose this home for an extended family vacation on the Big Island after our first choice closer to Kona fell through; turns out to have been for the best as this home was fantastic and provided an excellent base for touring the island and was a peaceful, gorgeous location for just relaxing and enjoying the sunsets and amenities of the home. Our stay was not without some challenges, the first involved an invasion of mice owing to unusual amounts of rain for the time of year; being intended for open-air living (i.e. doors and windows always open, no A/C), it was tough to keep the little friends out of the house entirely, but kudos to the manager and staff for doing their best to address the situation. The second challenge was a main drain clog that led to backed up toilets in two bathrooms; quite unpleasant but the manager worked the phones until a plumber could come out to rectify. They did an excellent and unobtrusive job of cleaning the bathrooms and restoring the systems, so what could have been a disaster ended up being a minor nuisance. Now for the many positives: the pool was terrific and used extensively by the whole family; the rooms were huge, comfortable and very tastefully decorated; the kitchen was well-stocked and allowed us to easily prepare many meals for our large group; and the volcano, ocean and sunset views were simply amazing, we spent many if not most of our hours at the house outside on the multiple patios enjoying the incredible scenery. The nearly 2,000 foot elevation of the home not only made for cooler conditions but a stunning perch for viewing a large chunk of the island. While Kohala is pretty remote (don't forget anything at the grocery store!), we quickly adjusted to slightly longer commutes to the island sites and appreciated the privacy and peacefulness of the location. Rea is a great owner and Audrey was a very helpful on-site manager, we would be very happy to stay in this lovely home again someday.

Vacation to the Big Island, July 11 2014

Rating Details: I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. I was very happy with the location. The vacation rental was spotless. The property manager was very helpful. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a wonderful vacation in this condo. For our family of 4, it was well equipped and luxurious. We were close to the pool and the workout room. The beach is within walking distance (10 min). The Waikoloa Beach is superb. You can do snorkeling. We can see turtles. We are also well located for when we went to the other beaches to the north and also Kona. We'll be back!

Phenomenal! No words can describe perfection!

Do you want to be nestled in a villa overlooking the ocean with privacy while having the amenities of one of the best hotels on the big island? If so, this is it! Walking in to the villa, you instantly felt like you were on a resort island. Great decor at the property, with an excellent floor plan. Two bedrooms, 3 beds, 2.5 bath, back yard with bbq,a pool, and a view that never stopped. The villa was already cooled with the AC on while walking in, so you felt like you just walked into heaven. One of things that we especially liked was the kitchen. While the website says it has a very spacious kitchen, we did not realize how much of everything it really has. All of the appliances are brand new. Additionally, everything was there from a blender, to a coffee grinder. There was also a bar as well with a mini fridge as well with champagne wine glasses etc. It was very convenient to enjoy meals at the hotel. We ended up going to the farmers market and making some fresh fruit smoothies. The other piece that was incredible was the check in process to the Mauna Kea. While we were staying at the Villa, when we walked into the Mauna Kea hotel, the staff welcomed us with a traditional hawaiian lays and some passion fruit, orange and Guava juice. (POG). At the time they welcomed us with open arms and talked about the places we can visit at the hotel. The concierge staff was exceptionally helpful as they showed us the best places to go snorkeling. The Mauna Kea is also the only hotel that has a special area designated to look at the Mante Ray's which were amazing and we would strongly recommend! We also ended up eating at the bar and grill restaurant that overlooked the ocean. We enjoyed some drinks and shared the a pizza that was very reasonably priced for Hawaii. We are still talking about the pesto pizza as its one of the hotels specialities as its garnished with fresh radishes and looks like a piece of art. The villa is also very close to a trail, so if you are interested in a scenic jog or walk, are the property, you have that at your fingertips as well. I can't say enough about this rental. Enjoy your trip to Hawaii Aloha!
