                                Lovely spot overlooking the sea

My daughter and I really, really enjoyed our stay here. We were looking for a quiet place away from the regular tourist haunts where we could relax and from which we could explore. The place was one of the best outfitted and decorated stays I've experienced. Really top notch. We loved the location as we sat for hours on the verandah looking directly at the breaking surf. Location: The nearest beach is a 5-minute walk. Be aware it is clothing optional and somewhat counter-culture but the waves are quite amazing. The nearest corner store is a 5-minute drive away, but a real shop or restaurant is about a 20-minute drive. Anyone staying here should be aware of a few things however. Wouldn't stop me from staying there, but just in case... * the ocean surf is 24x7 (of course). If that level of noise bothers you, it might be an issue. * there are plenty of noisy critters at night. The coqui frogs are incredibly loud, but we found them charming... almost sounds like they're asking a question "Ko-ki?" * internet speed and reliability is not great. I imagine network access on a corner of an island is challenging. If you expect to steadily stream Netflix or some other service, you might get frustrated. I would definitely visit again and would recommend this place to friends.

                                Wonderful home away from home

This was my family's first trip to Hawaii and staying here was the perfect accommodation for the 7 of us. The pictures do not give this beautiful home justice. Everything was neat and extremely clean and Juan was THE BEST when it came to letting us know the "must see" places, advising us on how to pack, and where to get groceries before coming to the house. He always was nice enough to come by (per our request) on our last day to meet and talk to us about some of the Big Island's history. Even though there is no cell phone service (ATT) there is free wifi and you can call the mainland from the house phone. There isn't cable TV but you have several DVDs to watch and Netflix. My only regret was there wasn't a TV downstairs and that's where my Mom slept and spent most of her time since she wasn't able to walk upstairs everyday. From ages 13 to 72 we all LOVED staying here and exploring this wonderful community and island.

We stayed here for 4 nights in January. The photos online do not do this home justice. The house is beautiful and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed including many spices, cooking oils, etc. The downstairs is newly remodeled and has gorgeous high ceilings and designer bathrooms with bamboo floors throughout. The upstairs is also beautiful. Spacious, modern and super clean. You can't see the ocean from the home because of the dense foliage, but it is a 5 minute walk to the path that leads down to the beach and then another 3-5 minute hike down to the beach from there. The path is fairly rough. We made the hike in flip flops, but it would be very difficult for someone who is elderly or frail. The beach is beautiful, and there were people swimming there, but we did not since it was very rough and chilly. We did sunbathe there - but go early because the sun sets behind the cliff around 3 or 4. About 1/2 of the people were clothed, 1/2 were not - no one cared either way. We loved the sound of the frogs at night, but they are really loud. Personally, I think it's the best white noise ever and slept great here. When you are here, be sure to visit Uncle Roberts on Wednesday nights for the Farmers Market and live music. Also the Kapoho tide pools were like snorkeling in an aquarium...pristine coral and tons of fish! Also, Juan was great to work with. Very friendly and laid back, yet promptly answered all emails and questions.
