Oasis in bad weather

5 of 5
We had the misfortune of being on the Big Island during an abnormal weather pattern, but the condo was an oasis in the storm. Huge lanai, kids sand toys, beach chairs, and some inflatable tubes were there. The turtle beach next door never failed to disappoint. The owners, Dennis and Sherron, were a pleasure to deal with and attentive to any questions we had, more so than any other condo owners that we have dealt with in the past. If they didn't know the answers to our questions, they found out. Great condo reference book on site. The unit is right on the water, so expect some minor issues attendant to the location (everything needs to go in the fridge, otherwise the ants will come out; one time a gecko got in). We recommend the Sea Horse farm, Snorkeling with Manta Rays on Hawaiian Oceanic, and the Dolphin Experience for kids. As far as food, Da Poke Shack is walking distance, although we preferred Umeke's in town. There is no barbecue at the condo, so plan accordingly.

Your Private Paradise Hideway

5 of 5
If you are looking for a very nice place to stay while visiting Kailua-Kona, I strongly suggest staying with Wendy and Harry at their Tropical Vacation Paradise. When we walked in both my wife and I felt like we where home. The unit is located on the mountain side above Kailua-Kona with a beautiful view looking out over the ocean. My wife and I loved being able to go sight seeing and traveling around the Big Island and knowing that at the end of the day we were able to return to our private hideaway and enjoy the peace and quite and unwind from the days events. If you don’t feel like eating out and you need a nice home cooked meal there are grocery stores just down the hill where you can pick up food and with the full kitchen and bbq you can make a home cooked meal. You can set on your private lanai and watch beautiful sunsets and listen to the wild turkeys gobble as they roam through out the orchard. I really enjoyed sitting on the lanai early in the morning having a great cup of Kona coffee and watching the orchard come alive. As far as feeling safe, I felt safer being at the unit than I did walking around some of souvenir stores downtown. We slept with the doors and windows open feeling completely safe and knowing that all the neighbors watch out for each other. If you did not know where the house is located you would never find it. That in its self makes you feel comfortable knowing there are not any strangers walking around. If you are looking to extend you vacation by couple days, I would suggest staying in this wonderful place and you can then use the money you saved on lodging to enjoy a few more days of paradise on the Big Island. We have suggest to numerous friends and family members that when they visit Hawaii they need to stay at this Tropical Ohana. If you need a larger place to stay, I would also like to suggest you check out Wendy and Harry’s Kona Lighthouse which sleeps up to 10 people. It is located near the coast and is just as nice as the mountainside hideaway.

2 weeks in Paradise

5 of 5
From the moment we arrived we felt comfortable. The condo was just as described. It has been very nicely decorated and has everything you need. It is in an excellent location for those who enjoy getting out and walking. We loved being able to sit on the lanai and see the ocean and hear the waves crashing. I would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to anyone we know going to Hawaii. Thank you for sharing your home away from home with us. Roger and Trish Z.
