This was our first time with HomeAway, and obviously our first stay at this condo, and our whole experience could not have been better. We spent our first three years of married life living on the North Shore (courtesy U.S. Navy) in the early '70s and sort of wanted to go back to it all. As one old saying goes, "you can't go back" (especially more than 40 years). Well, it's true, but in this case also, it's about as close as you can get. The North Shore hasn't changed nearly as much as Honolulu, and the laid-back look and feel are still there.
The condo is very clean, comfortable, and well equipped... even beach gear and towels. We loved sipping coffee in the morning on the lanai and watching the birds and golfers. The grounds of both the condo and hotel areas are beautiful and impeccably manicured and well maintained. Two weeks weren't nearly enough, and we're already talking about a return trip.
Coming back home for a vacation affords you some opportunities you might have missed while you were living there. Here are a few gems we discovered that we either missed 40+ years ago or that didn't exist: local food like garlic shrimp; Ted's bakery (haupia pie!) and the farmers' market (both nearby on Kam Hwy); Kawela Bay and Shark's Cove; daily turtle sightings in Haleiwa; and the top-notch Opal Thai restaurant (also in Haleiwa).
Mahalo nui loa to Marti and all the smooth sailing she provided in helping us plan our wonderful trip. Aloha.
