Gorgeous jungle retreat, great value!!!

5 of 5
The house is full of lovely artistic touches, the lanai opens onto a gorgeous jungle ravine, and the neighborhood is one of the older, more charming areas of Hilo. The perfect mix of civilization and nature retreat. I've worked with other rent-by-owners on Kona side and in San Diego, and they weren't exactly professional. But the owners of Mika Mizu are both warm and professional--available if something goes wrong, but not intrusive or demanding. This is my best rent-by-owner experience, and I hope to return one day soon!

Amazing, peaceful home in the rainforest

5 of 5
We were honored to be a guest in this wonderful home. Every bedroom has a view of the jungle right outside the window. The sounds of the coqui frogs can be heard singing through the night. Mika Taki has everything you will need & the owners have done a great job of covering every detail. The kitchen is very well equipped. The beds were very comfortable. The estate is very private and allows for all the peace and tranquility one could ask for. The information book for the guests was very useful & had plenty of good suggestions for places to visit. The walk down the path to the waterfall was a bit steep, but well worth the trip. We stayed for only four nights and I wish we could have stayed longer!

Perfection!

5 of 5
I can't wait to go back. The house and property are even nicer than it looks in the photos. The house is very clean. There has been a lot of attention to detail for the comfort and convenience of the guests. The kitchen has everything you need to make meals. The normal condiments are provided. There was even a large pitcher of herb infused cold water in the fridge. There are towels, hair dryers, etc. You really don't need anything but your clothing to go there and enjoy the stay. The home is located in a residential area, but it is so secluded due to the waterfall and lush vegetation, you feel that you have arrived in a rain forest. There are coqui that sing you to sleep at night, along with the sounds of the waterfall in the distance. Amazing. The beds are incredibly comfortable. We even had tempurpedic style pillows on the beds. The location is very centrally located. It took about 10-15 minutes to get there from the airport. Town is just a few minutes away by car. Nearby is Rainbow falls (you could actually walk there from the house). About an hour away (or a bit less) are the volcanoes and other waterfalls (Akaka). The town of Hilo is not large and busy like Honolulu. It is very welcoming and relaxing. The people are incredibly friendly. During our stay, there was quite a bit of rain. Apparently, Hilo is located on the 'wet' side of the island. No matter - if it was raining to hard to go out, we were perfectly happy to sit in the hammock chairs on the enclosed/screened in and covered back deck while sipping tea :) The house/property were as much of a vacation as the surrounding sites. Another plus - because it rained frequently, we had a lot of wet clothing. We were very thankful for the washer and dryer available for use in the house. We were fortunate to meet the owner of the property. She is a lovely person and really tries hard to make sure the guest are comfortable. I am starting to save up now to make a return trip. This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken! You will return from you stay fully refreshed - it really is impossible to get stressed in this location:) Enjoy!
