Rest and relaxation at the Stables at Hakalau

5 of 5
We stayed in John and Karen's lovely apartment for three nights and enjoyed every minute. They are gracious and welcoming hosts, knowledgable about the area, its history, and the islands and happy to talk story with visitors. The views over the fields to the ocean are spectacular and Hilo is just a short drive away--although it's good to have groceries on hand for when you're too busy relaxing to drive into town! Having their friendly dogs, cats, and horses around for company was an added bonus. We hope very much to visit John and Karen and the Stables at Hakalau again.

Beautiful, relaxing home surrounded by nature

5 of 5
I stayed in other rentals prior to Mika Taki on Hawaii but it definitely was the most beautifully furnished and conveniently located of them all. We loved the decor and the generously stocked kitchen. The owners even gave us a welcome basket with goodies which we all enjoyed. The location is fantastic. It is surrounded by nature and very private. The coqui frogs are loud at night, but the owners provided ear buds. The only comment we had was that on overcast days it gets kind of dark in the house and a little damp due to the open nature of the house. We loved the place and will definitely look to stay here again when we visit the Big Island again!

Beautiful property and grounds

4 of 5
As stated by others this property is stunning and the attention to detail is outstanding. Though I agree with most points raised in the other reviews I can't believe no one has mentioned the traffic noise. Each morning about 6 am you can hear traffic going by, even with the windows closed it still wakes you up. However if the traffic noise in the morning and early evening doesn't bother you then I can't say anything other than you will love this property. Hilo is not great to visit, but this might have been down to the road works taking place around the town. Good supermarkets and make sure you get a Safeway card as it does provide good savings.
