BEAUTY & LOCATION CAN'T BE BEAT

5 of 5
The photos are nice, but the house is even better! Our family of 5 arrived on a sunny afternoon (arrive in the daylight, because it gets dark here). The location is so convenient (walking distance) to downtown Hilo, yet it feels like you are miles away. The drive through the neighborhood is lovely with the one lane bridge, lush foliage and orchids and tropical flowers everywhere. Once inside the house, our kids were excited trying to determine which room to choose. Each room has its own bathroom and is beautifully decorated in a Japanese motif. The bedding is luxurious and the beds were very comfortable. I slept well once I got accustomed to the jungle sounds (rain and chirping coqui frogs). The owners have decorated the home with wonderful details and provided many conveniences: beach shoes (some beaches are rocky), beach towels, guide books, even a welcome basket with coffee and goodies. We enjoyed visiting the property's waterfall, but be sure to wear bug repellant. I loved walking around the neighborhood admiring the flora and fauna and met some very friendly neighbors who shared Hilo history. We discovered a few local restaurants worth mentioning: Tina's Garden Gourmet Café (amazing Thai food with lots of organic veggies), Moonstruck Patisserie (the best croissants outside of Paris) and Pineapples (delicious fish & chips and great live music -- make a reservation). Many local attractions are nearby: several waterfalls, Banyan Drive, Coconut Island, snorkeling with turtles. This home is a gem!

BEST TIME OF OUR LIVES!

5 of 5
This house is wonderful & has everything you might need. It is well located, spacious, clean, and has a fabulous view. We did not get to see whales or dolphins but we did see turtles & nene. We spent lotd of time walking along the cliffs & climbing rocks and loved falling asleep to the sounds of frogs & waves crashing. Pat was very easy to communicste with snd returned our deposit promptly. We would choose this home again in a heartbeat. The whole area is very laid back and not very "touristy" but there is plenty of stuff close by to keep busy if you want to. Pat can give you lots of great info about things to do nearby. This area really is the most beautiful place I have ever been and everyone was very nice.

MORE THAN 5 STARS! WONDERFUL BEACH HOUSE!!!!

5 of 5
I truly do not have words to explain how wonderful this beach house was for our large family. Our kids have (grade school, middle school, high school, and young adult) have just had a BALL here, and so did we. The home is stocked with every possible thing you might need, including beach chairs, paddle boards, snorkel tubes, etc. We even donated some new snorkel gear to the pile of stuff in the store room. :) The house is situated along a row of Hilo beaches---the most wonderful snorkeling, fun swimming, and sheer visual beauty is just across the little road. We affectionately called the beach directly in front of the house, "our front yard." The actual front yard is huge (the house is on two lots), with the most wonderful spreading tree. The younger kids had a blast climbing it and swinging on the rope swing. Someone was always in the tree, during our entire 9 day stay. :) We even had our little wedding under the tree in front of the beach...magical. It rains often in Hilo, but it passes quickly and never stopped us. In a half an hour, the sun is out again and so were we---snorkeling, swimming, using the paddle boards provided with the house. The rain is what makes this area so lush and tropical---truly a better fit for us than the dry Kona side. Everything we need is either in the house, or just a few minutes drive away, as a big shopping center, including a large Walmart and Safeway, are close by---as is the wonderful Farmer's Market, as well as the cutest selection of downtown shops ever. Our first day here, we saw two turtles, and then have seen more every day we were here. Speaking of the ocean, the snorkeling is fantastic! We have had a blast playing and leaping around on the lava rocks, too. The beaches here get crowded on the weekends, but not overly so, but you have them almost to yourselves all week long, especially in the mornings! The crowding is mostly locals, playing with their families, which our kids really loved and commented on. It was awesome to see so many adults playing and swimming with their kids! I have tried, but I really don't have words for the awesomeness of this beach house. Our kid's range from 2nd grade to middle school to high school to young adult, as well as the two of us (both 39) and every single one of us has been so impressed and delighted by this rental property. You will absolutely NOT be disappointed. HIGHLY recommended. It was the most wonderful vactaion "home base" I can imagine.
