A Great Place!

5 of 5
This was our fifth time renting a place in Hawaii and by far the Cottage by the Sea was the best. Everything was very new and clean, a great value for the price. It is located in a very quiet area of new homes separated by acres of former sugar cane fields. The hosts, Yu Yok and Mike were very fiendly and helpful. They respected our privacy and we respected the fact that this was a family area. The cottage location is in a fantastic location to explore old Hawaii. Just a short drive south into Hilo for the Farmer's Market. Our return from Hilo usually was by the scenic drive. Look for the "4 Mile Scenic Route" sign on the ocean sidea. The scenic drive ends just a short distance away from the cottage. Most of our time we explored places norith of the cottage driving the Old Mamalahoa Highway and side roads to discover some beautiful areas. We visited many of the state parks in this area and old plantation towns. Many days our plans changed as we discovered another beautiful area to explore. Some unexpected sightseeing came from the cottage views. Rise early in the morning to watch cruise ships pass by with all their lights and great sunrises. On a clear day look out the bedroom windows to see the snow on the top of Mauna Kea. For three days we were reminded that the cottage is a place to relax and take it easy, that was the time it took a Giant East African Snail to make its way from the front to the back of the patio. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return next year.
