beautiful home!

5 of 5
i was expecting the zen house to be a nice house, but i wasn't prepared for the quality of craftsmanship and detail that went into the house, making it feel more like your own home rather than a rental. nothing is overlooked. from the thread count of the linens, the artwork, rugs, and furniture, the quality of the appliances and fixtures, to the cleanliness of the house. it is truly that beautiful. and the outside showers...why anyone would shower inside is beyond me. and the frogs were in the mood for love, their calling was so much fun to listen to. not at all like the sweet coqui call, but much more guttural and amusing. (they turned it off at a decent hour.) we loved hawi and the smaller feel of the town. it has several great restaurants, (bamboo and sushi rock are the two we ate at and loved.) a great coffee shop, kohala coffee mill, (where we spent each morning sitting amongst the locals drinking our coffee.) and some fantastic galleries and shops. the house is approx. 20 minutes from hapuna and mauna kea beaches, which are so picturesque. perfect beaches for swimming, and boogie boarding with decent snorkeling. (get to mauna kea early. before 10, parking is an issue as they only allow so many cars down to the beach, which is nice in that there will only ever be so many people.) waimea is a great town with a malasada truck parked next to the mcdonalds parking lot. (BEST malasadas and lemonade.) and the mountain road between hawi and waimea is gorgeous. i would without a bit of hesitation recommend this house for your stay in a little slice of paradise. obviously, we loved our stay and hope to return, sooner than later. mahalo, kirsten for letting us stay in your beautiful home!

Secluded Paradise

5 of 5
This is our 3rd stay at the Hawi cottage. As always, Kersten and Swarupo are great to deal with. We have driven down to the resort beaches, but this is the place to stay. All the comforts of home and more! The area is full of interesting things to do, or drive to the Kohala Beaches and enjoy the sun. This year we went down to the Lapahaki Historic Site. It doesn't look like much from the road, but it is a beautiful stop and well worth a visit. We also ate at Minnie's in Kaapau this year, the Ono plate was delicious!

Comfortable cozy cabin

5 of 5
We rented this place for a month in December. It's a cute cozy one bedroom cabin that has all your necessities with the exception of tv. The kitchen is well stocked - gas stove and oven for all your cooking - dishes, pots, blender. The coffee maker is similar to a French press. The fridge is on the smaller size in depth but still fits all your needs. King bed is very very comfortable - you'll just want to lay there and enjoy the birds singing while the sun rises, which you can see through the bedroom. There are two showers - indoor and outdoor. Both have hot water and you'll never run out as it's hot water on demand. The outdoor shower is a must!! Once you try it, you won't want to use the indoor one. Bathroom is large. Separate shower area from the toilet. Have your morning coffee/tea on the porch and listen to the pigs and cow. We only heard the cow next door twice while we were there as they move her around. The pigs are not loud at all as the farm is further on the property. Remember to save your scrapes and go feed the pigs. They love company!! Bring your walking shoes and hike down to the end of the road for some nice ocean views. You can't get all the way to the ocean as it becomes private property but still great views. Say hi to the goats and horses by the fence on this walk. If you start talking to the horses, they will walk over and allow you to feed and pet them. Just give them some of the tall grass that's there. The house is close to the town, which you can walk to if you're feeling adventurous or take the car. Nice shops and restaurants. Farmers market on Saturday mornings. This cabin is a great getaway and gives you a bit of the off grid living feel. Propane is always full. The house runs on solar but there is a generator if needed. Andrea was always available if we had questions or any issues and she resolved them right away. As there was no tv, we just rented movies from the red box and watched it on our laptop. It was actually nice to detox from the tv. The nights can be quiet but there are a ton of books available to read. There is a farm and another place that is rented on this property but the land is large and has plenty of trees around that you feel like you're the only one there. we almost went a month without even seeing anyone on the property.
