i was expecting the zen house to be a nice house, but i wasn't prepared for the quality of craftsmanship and detail that went into the house, making it feel more like your own home rather than a rental. nothing is overlooked. from the thread count of the linens, the artwork, rugs, and furniture, the quality of the appliances and fixtures, to the cleanliness of the house. it is truly that beautiful. and the outside showers...why anyone would shower inside is beyond me.
and the frogs were in the mood for love, their calling was so much fun to listen to. not at all like the sweet coqui call, but much more guttural and amusing. (they turned it off at a decent hour.)
we loved hawi and the smaller feel of the town. it has several great restaurants, (bamboo and sushi rock are the two we ate at and loved.) a great coffee shop, kohala coffee mill, (where we spent each morning sitting amongst the locals drinking our coffee.) and some fantastic galleries and shops.
the house is approx. 20 minutes from hapuna and mauna kea beaches, which are so picturesque. perfect beaches for swimming, and boogie boarding with decent snorkeling. (get to mauna kea early. before 10, parking is an issue as they only allow so many cars down to the beach, which is nice in that there will only ever be so many people.) waimea is a great town with a malasada truck parked next to the mcdonalds parking lot. (BEST malasadas and lemonade.) and the mountain road between hawi and waimea is gorgeous. i would without a bit of hesitation recommend this house for your stay in a little slice of paradise.
obviously, we loved our stay and hope to return, sooner than later. mahalo, kirsten for letting us stay in your beautiful home!
