Are you a nature lover? Do you have plans to explore as much of the Big Island as you can? Do you hate paying a lot for accommodations when any good adventurer spends most of his/her time outdoors anyway? If you answered ‘Yes’ to one or more of these questions, this is the place for you!
Ed is a great host and the cottage is a perfect little piece of home. We had everything we needed during our stay and fell in love with a number of new sights while traversing Kapa'au. Pololu Valley, King Kamehameha’s Fish Pond, and lovely ‘Main Street’ Hawi are all within a 5-10 minute drive. Takata grocery store and Gill’s Lanai are two charming, convenient stops for toiletries or a bite to eat.
We have stayed in Kona in the past and, while it is wonderful, you miss out on the incredible variety and awe-inspiring views of staying in Kohala. Our morning drives out and our evening drives back to Kapa'au were some of the most scenic moments of our vacation and we saw countless beautiful sunrises, rainbows, and sunsets this way.
I would recommend this cottage to anyone searching for a comfortable home base for a Hawaiian getaway. From Kona, to Hilo, to the top of Mauna Kea, you can get anywhere without driving too far and you can relax without the hustle-and-bustle of a hotel atmosphere. We have many great memories of our stay and would certainly return here for a future trip to the Big Island.
