Comfortable and Close

5 of 5
This house was clean, private, and surprisingly quiet since it's near the main road. I knew it was an older house, but we were all pleasantly surprised with the size and location. The beds were comfortable and this is important to me. The location is within walking distance to the beach and town. I would definitely recommend the place for groups and families. The owners were helpful with their suggestions(we thought the hurricane might come) and easy to communicate with.

Wonderful family vacation

5 of 5
We had a wonderful time at Jim & Shannon's place in Hanalei. The house was perfect for us, as we stayed in the upstairs 2-bedroom the entire time while various family members came & went, staying in the other units. The place is quite affordable and incredibly conveniently located. It is half a block from the central part of town, where you will find great shops, restaurants and cafes, and a very short walk from the beach. Being right in town, the house is close to some bars which have live music. Thursday through Saturday nights could get pretty loud. But when we closed the windows and turned the fans down, the noise was not too bad at all. And our young kids (one toddler, one infant) were able to sleep through it fine every night. And the music never went later than midnight and usually ended earlier. The house feels private and secluded from the street and the hubbub of the town. There is a nice yard which wraps around, and you will find everything you will need from well-stocked kitchens to a gas grill to beach toys and body boards and a couple of bikes. Each unit has a selection of books people have left behind. In our experience there were plenty of beach towels, and renting the entire house, we had access to all 4 kitchens; if you just rent one of the units, you may find you are missing some basics such as salt & pepper or measuring cups, etc. In our opinion the units on the top floor were the nicest ones. The upstairs 2-bedroom feels like the main living space, it has the best living room and a nice deck overlooking the front yard. The studio is nicer than the one bedroom, with a lovely bathtub and nice ceilings, and it's nice & big. I will say though that the 2nd floor units get a lot more sound from the street and the bars than the downstairs ones do. But like I said, it was totally manageable and worth it to stay up there, for us. Strangely, the downstairs 2-bedroom had full cable TV while the others only had basic broadcast stations. So if it's important to have access to a full lineup of TV channels, you might want to stay in that unit. Also its the only unit with a full kitchen, with a stove; the others have hot plates. The 1-bedroom is a bit dark but it has a nice little outdoor seating area/porch in front. Jim & Shannon were a pleasure to deal with, quick to respond and very friendly and accommodating. All in all we really enjoyed the house, would happily recommend it to friends and would love to stay there again.
