Best location AND value in Hana

5 of 5
This was our third trip to Maui AND staying in Hana for 2 nights each time. This was by far the best location and value for Hana. This cottage and the hosts were perfect! The location was just a few minutes drive from the Hana highway, which was a source of noise at a cottage we stayed at LAST Maui trip. Easy access with solitude is a bonus of THIS accommodation compared to many we have considered or stayed at in Hana. Maria was great at communicating before, during and even after our stay. She was very welcoming and outgoing, a pleasure to email and talk with, a friend. We stayed here for our last 2 days on Maui, enjoying the relaxing pace and frequent rain (very soothing and making everything beautiful). It is much prettier and open, with more space from ANY neighbors than in the pictures. This is a real value for a stay in Hana, which we had not expected. The cottage grounds and those around the host's home (which was within sight but far enough away for COMPLETE privacy for us), were beautiful and well maintained. At Maria's recommendation, we walked (short, easy walk) to the coast from the cottage, enjoying a mix of a few homes among the wild rainforest, with the very exotic flowers grown on plantations of Hawaii growing WILD! We only saw a handful of people, appeared to be locals, all friendly. The rugged coastline and water were comparable to the beauty of the Wainapanapa park that we took a longer hike around earlier in the day. We appreciated everything needed for the grill being provided (and all other BBQ stuff) because we enjoyed grilled ribs and Okinawa sweet potato salad (the ones with purple and white centers that you can buy in Hawaii). WE also had Braddah Huts excellent tacos (just past Hannah) while watching the surfers just down the road at Koki Beach. The cottage itself was clean and well stocked as mentioned in earlier reviews. It bears repeating again from other reviews that the bed was SOOO comfortable. WE definitely recommend this stay to anyone wanting to stay in the Hana area. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Truly the highlight of our time in Maui

5 of 5
My wife and I stayed for two nights as part of a week long trip to Maui. The pictures we viewed online looked great but given the price we were skeptical how nice the house could actually be (costs a fraction of one room Wailea resort). When we arrived at the house on the evening of Jan. 3rd we were completely blown away by the quality of the materials used in the house, everything was top notch. If the house itself wasn't enough we found a basket of fresh fruit from the property awaiting our arrival. As we explored the house we were happy to find that everything we could possibly need was already stocked in the house (i.e. laundry soap, dishwasher soap, trash bags, even a huge spice cabinet full or seasonings). Needless to say, when we woke up the next day and walked around the property we were again surprised by how beautiful the grounds were. In addition to the countless bowling ball size avocados and other various fruits and veggies, there were a large variety of different plants and flowers. it was absolutely beautiful. A few additional notes to end on... If you plan to stay at this house make sure to find Thai by Pranee (in Hana) and the clay oven pizza stand, both were very good. Other than that I would recommend stopping at Mana Foods in Paia before you drive out, there are very few grocery options when you arrive. Also, make sure that you visit the Seven Sacred Pools, it is the last stop on the road to Hana and is one of the most amazing things we've every seen. Lastly, I do have one small word of caution... if you are bothered by spiders or small lizards be prepared. There were quite a few spiders around the property and the lanai as well as a very small gecko in the kitchen. This is the price you pay for having true peace and quite out in Hana but it is very much worth it. Thank you to Helene for all your hospitality and providing such a great alternative to the over crowded beaches of Wailea.
