Slice of Paradise

5 of 5
We arrived at the cottage after dark and our hosts had left the lights on, music playing and windows cast wide open with the soft ocean breeze floating through. It was a perfect welcome, except we couldn't really see the surroundings. But then morning came. When the sun rose we pulled back the drapes and were stunned by the incredible view and the ocean which seemed almost close enough to touch. Spectacular! We spent two weeks in Maui and the four days we spent at the cottage were hands-down the best four days of the trip. We lamented not being able to stay longer (next time, indeed!). The cottage was well appointed, impeccably clean, surrounded by the most well-manicured garden in the neighborhood and Sandi and Dan gave us so much privacy we were able to pretend we actually lived at this place on Hamoa Beach! One day it rained most of the day but we simply sat on the lanai in our shorts with books and the amazing view, enjoying every bit of the warm, tropical downpour. Plenty of things to see and do around Hana, which all the guidebooks will steer you, but sitting on our lanai and drinking in the surroundings was a highlight by itself. Great place, great location--we've raved about it to all our friends, especially those who are aching for a second-honeymoon location.

Wonderful 4 night stay

5 of 5
We almost spent our whole 2 weeks on Maui in Kihei, but ended up spending our first 4 nights in Hana and I am SO-O-O glad we did! I don't think you can get the feel of Hana by just being there a couple hours. The Hana Palms was wonderful. It isn't a place for everyone....it isn't the Hilton (or the Hana Travaasa Hotel), but it is wonderful in it's own way. We stayed in the lower property. It was nice, clean and had everything we needed. It is in a rain forest and things didn't always dry well, so be sure to ask where the dryer is! We walked the property and saw lots of native plants. It is a great place to roam (but watch for spider webs if you walk in the morning!). It was a short easy drive to Hana and a great starting point for all our journeys on the west side of Maui. There is a great fruit, smoothie & fresh banana bread stand at the corner...be sure to walk there...a nice start to each morning. Take the time to travel the Hana Highway south of town to see waterfalls, The Pools of Ohe'o (in the National Park), Palapala Ho'omau Church & Charles Lindbergh's grave and just past the church & grave on the right is the best fruit stand for a snack...worth the extra quarter mile or so. The hike to the red sand beach is an experience in it's self, but the beach is worth the hike. If you don't need daily maid service and you like unique places, stay at the Hana Palms...you won't regret it!!

Truly the highlight of our time in Maui

5 of 5
My wife and I stayed for two nights as part of a week long trip to Maui. The pictures we viewed online looked great but given the price we were skeptical how nice the house could actually be (costs a fraction of one room Wailea resort). When we arrived at the house on the evening of Jan. 3rd we were completely blown away by the quality of the materials used in the house, everything was top notch. If the house itself wasn't enough we found a basket of fresh fruit from the property awaiting our arrival. As we explored the house we were happy to find that everything we could possibly need was already stocked in the house (i.e. laundry soap, dishwasher soap, trash bags, even a huge spice cabinet full or seasonings). Needless to say, when we woke up the next day and walked around the property we were again surprised by how beautiful the grounds were. In addition to the countless bowling ball size avocados and other various fruits and veggies, there were a large variety of different plants and flowers. it was absolutely beautiful. A few additional notes to end on... If you plan to stay at this house make sure to find Thai by Pranee (in Hana) and the clay oven pizza stand, both were very good. Other than that I would recommend stopping at Mana Foods in Paia before you drive out, there are very few grocery options when you arrive. Also, make sure that you visit the Seven Sacred Pools, it is the last stop on the road to Hana and is one of the most amazing things we've every seen. Lastly, I do have one small word of caution... if you are bothered by spiders or small lizards be prepared. There were quite a few spiders around the property and the lanai as well as a very small gecko in the kitchen. This is the price you pay for having true peace and quite out in Hana but it is very much worth it. Thank you to Helene for all your hospitality and providing such a great alternative to the over crowded beaches of Wailea.
