Spectacular in Everyway!

5 of 5
Ridiculously beautiful view from a giant, airy suite overlooking the ocean and coffee orchard. The pictures do not do this fantastic studio apartment justice - it's stunning, yet simple and elegant. Carol is a gracious, generous and thoughtful hostess, providing everything a traveler needs, from travel/ Hawaii history/plant/animal books to soaps to linens to beach/adventure gear to her delish organic coffee to filtered water, grill, super comfy bed and more! The suite is gorgeous, light-filled with skylights and tastefully furnished with little nooks for eating, reading and relaxing. Definitely the most beautiful and most quiet place we stayed in on our 3 week island adventure. A suite like this in a hotel or resort would easily be in the several hundred dollar range. Fast wifi, cable, gorgeous bathroom with amazing shower; every wall is a window so you can see the ocean, sunrise, sunset, horses, wild turkeys, avocado and coffee trees and the rest of paradise. Or you can draw the shades and sleep-in. Conveniently located up the mountain from Captain Cook, which has a grocery. A perfect getaway/adventure-base/vacation hideaway. I would never leave if I lived here....

An amazing experience!

5 of 5
For what we were looking for, the Kona Cabin was perfect in every way. We booked this trip earlier this year and every time work got crazy, I looked at the link here on VRBO dreaming of the 12 days when we could be there. Well, the actual experience was even better than what we had envisioned. It was a morphing of all the things we love--healthy food, wildlife, dogs, cats, art and the ocean. The Kona Cabin was comfortable and we saved a ton of money, because Jeffrey and Heide provided all of the snorkeling gear and beach chairs and their kitchen was stocked with spices, utensils, coffee maker, blender, etc. They have a nice selection of DVDs and music CDs and WiFi, which was nice. It’s a semi-rustic experience and if you’re into the luxury of a hotel where they clean your room every day, this may not be a great match for you. But, if you’re looking for a great Island experience that makes you feel like you’re in the jungle, this is it! Huge avocadoes, a plethora of exotic fruits, macadamia nuts you can pick right outside your door and crack them in the kitchen; our hosts’ 3 dogs, their chickens, sheep and assorted wildlife. And if you’re a decent table tennis player, please stay with them, because we provided little competition for Jeffrey, although he’s a great teacher. Heidi is an exceptional artist and they both have incredible souls. Meeting them made the whole thing complete!

Home away from home!!

5 of 5
10/2-23/2014: We stayed 3wks at this rental and was so glad that we did!! The owner met us as we drove up to the rental and showed us around the place. It had everything to make us comfortable as if we were in our own home. We ate out twice during our stay as we loved having our meals out in the lanai, watching the sunset/sunrise, and listening to our music (quietly, as there is a noise ordinance). We did not need to buy extraneous things as the owners had everything that we needed. There were so many games available to keep us occuppied but we did not need them as the outdoors kept us pretty busy. There was plenty of windows that we rarely used the AC and enjoyed the rain when it came. We originally came because of the snorkeling but that ended up a secondary issue for us as we enjoyed the weather and atmosphere so much more. We also loved talking and meeting the locals as they were all so easy to talk with and were very generous with their time. We jokingly told the owner that we would love to take the property off his hand when he was ready to sell it. Again, the rental had EVERTHING that you would need to make a perfect vacation. My husband wanted to stay another wk but I told him that he still needed to go back to work (he was not happy with me for reminding him of this fact, but I distracted him by pointing out something to him out in the lanai). We plan on coming back to the Big Island next yr. The rental helped to make this the most relaxing vacation, the people, and the mild, temperate weather took ahold and ensured that we would return. Thank you, Troy, for allowing us to scratch your brain about the possibility of making this our retirement home.
