Great Place, But Need 4WD

4 of 5
Fabulous views perched over tide pools, and the unit is well appointed with very comfortable seating. I could live and die on the deck chairs! Very romantic setting, but also safe and fun for kids. The location is a bit remote, with only one or two really good restaurants 10 miles away in Pohoa, so visitors should plan on eating in much of the time. Even though it seems far from everything, it's just over 2 hrs back across the island to the Kona airport, and an easy day trip to volcano park or up coast past Hilo to see waterfalls. Despite recurrent rain, this is the prettier and more authentic side of the island. Snorkeling here is very good if you go out far enough. Within 100 feet of house, it's mostly smooth lava and shallow. Further out, great coral, crystal clear water, pools 4-10 feet deep, and plenty of sea life. Best when high tide coincides with calm seas in the mornings. We didn't go south (right) far because it's awkward in fins scrambling between tide pools. The only real negative here is that the road in front floods, in a few places up to 18" deep at high tide twice per day, for 4-5 hours each period, so unless you have 4wd with high clearance, you must wade about 150 feet, which is very awkward at night or if you have to carry anything. Even when not flooded, that part of the road is rough, and we damaged our rental car trying to get through. Neighbors said road won't be fixed any time soon, so you need to plan on this inconvenience.

LOVED the house!!!

5 of 5
we were VERY happy/bhavesh's attentiveness to us(he wrote us before we arrived & the evening we flew in to make sure all was well). the 3 bd/2ba worked really great for the 5 of us & our granddaughter LOVED the pool!!! bhavesh' staff were super & very friendly. as well, it's location was great---easy to downtown, groceries(not far from safeway & Costco), etc. we would, DEFINTELY, recommend this home to others. while we were there we did a bodyglove whalewatch(GREAT staff), went on the glassbottom boat(another GREAT staff), went to a luau at the royal kona resort, ate at longboard legends pizza(DE-lish!!!), bubba gumps, & had a quick supper at Patricio's Mexican taqueria(also good). we did daytrips to volcano Nat'l park stopping in na'alehu at punalu'u bake shop for some yummy portugese baked goods & also went to waimea for part of a day to visit the parker ranch. it was a GREAT vacation & our excellent accomodations was a huge part of that. except for 1 rainy day the weather was sunny/partly sunny. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it all!!!! k & g & family, oregon

Gorgeous Kona Getaway with a Gourmet Kitchen

5 of 5
You'll never want to leave this beautiful home in paradise. And for those lucky enough to stay at Hale Pali, you won't need to go anywhere. Carl and Deb have provided everything you'll need for a relaxing vacation by sea. Dramatic views outside, and all the creature comforts you wished you had in your own home inside. You don't feel like you're in a rental house, you feel at home. The gourmet kitchen is amazing and the entire house has all the modern amenities you'll ever need. A great getaway for families, honeymooners, or anyone wanting to experience the best of Kona's beauty. And did I mention there's whale watching? There are several beautiful sitting areas where you can gaze out over the ocean as these majestic mammals make their way up and down the coast. Thank you to the Ramsey's for all their hard work in making it a relaxing time for their guests.
