Simply the best!!

5 of 5
We had stayed in the Sunset Villa a few years ago and thought it was spectacular. When we checked in this time, it was even more of a "WOW" experience, as the interior has been renovated and updated with new flooring and newly decorated. We have rented many vacation rentals right around the world over the past 10 years and this place is hands-down the nicest place we have ever rented. So many highlights: - the new bed in the master is heavenly. - the views are to die for. - the sound system and TVs are first class. - the kitchen and large gas grill give you everything you need to cook anything you like. - the pool is wonderful and very private. Bob and his property manager Mary are both great to deal with. As my title says, this place is "simply the best!".

fabulous

Our family of four, myself, my wife and two adult sons had one of those "wow" moments when we entered this villa. It was much more than we expected. The room sizes were amazing. The bathrooms were very large and the kitchen was one you'd expect in a large home. It was all very clean, neat and tidy. The large gas bbq in the back was handy. The only thing that was small was the pool which was more for just a dunk than a swim. The housing tract it is in is very quiet and well manicured. It looks to me that most of the villas are unoccupied most of the time though maintained at a high level. The walk to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is simply down one block through the housing tract to a switchbacking path which leads to the driving range. From there it is you walk through the hotel and down to one of the worlds great beaches. The back yard has a view of the water and up the coast and it is right next to the number 2 or 3 tee box. I don't suspect that anyone would regret renting this beautiful place. We certainly hope to return.

A Great Family Getaway

5 of 5
We chose this home for an extended family vacation on the Big Island after our first choice closer to Kona fell through; turns out to have been for the best as this home was fantastic and provided an excellent base for touring the island and was a peaceful, gorgeous location for just relaxing and enjoying the sunsets and amenities of the home. Our stay was not without some challenges, the first involved an invasion of mice owing to unusual amounts of rain for the time of year; being intended for open-air living (i.e. doors and windows always open, no A/C), it was tough to keep the little friends out of the house entirely, but kudos to the manager and staff for doing their best to address the situation. The second challenge was a main drain clog that led to backed up toilets in two bathrooms; quite unpleasant but the manager worked the phones until a plumber could come out to rectify. They did an excellent and unobtrusive job of cleaning the bathrooms and restoring the systems, so what could have been a disaster ended up being a minor nuisance. Now for the many positives: the pool was terrific and used extensively by the whole family; the rooms were huge, comfortable and very tastefully decorated; the kitchen was well-stocked and allowed us to easily prepare many meals for our large group; and the volcano, ocean and sunset views were simply amazing, we spent many if not most of our hours at the house outside on the multiple patios enjoying the incredible scenery. The nearly 2,000 foot elevation of the home not only made for cooler conditions but a stunning perch for viewing a large chunk of the island. While Kohala is pretty remote (don't forget anything at the grocery store!), we quickly adjusted to slightly longer commutes to the island sites and appreciated the privacy and peacefulness of the location. Rea is a great owner and Audrey was a very helpful on-site manager, we would be very happy to stay in this lovely home again someday.
