Amazing! Much better than the pciutres!!!!!

5 of 5
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Kehena Beach House. It truly was the perfect romantic getaway. We have never seen such amazing sunrises! The many views from the decks are breathtaking. We spent most of our time outside, in awe of the surrounding beauty. The sound of the ocean is so relaxing. The house is private and secluded. Iliahi and Tim were extremely helpful and provided excellent communication throughout the entire process (rental to actual visit). Our stay at the beach house was a nice change from the fast paced crowds of Kona. It was the highlight of our trip and probably saved our vacation. I only wish we had stayed longer and can't wait to go back someday!

Home Away from Home

5 of 5
Group of 6 stayed for 5 nights. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted immediately with the steep slope onto the driveway. Not a big deal if you drive slow and careful. The house was tidy and clean. This house had pretty much everything you needed, just like in your own home -- the kitchen had pots and pans in all sizes, plenty of plates/bowls/cups, knives and silverware, coffee machine, toaster, seasonings, dish soap, and trash bag. I couldn't find a scissor though -- even at my own home. The house was suppose to have drinking water stocked but it didn't. The water jugs in the garage were emptied too. Wasn't a big deal, we planned on getting water bottles ourselves. During our stay, we saw a few cockroaches..but we saw cockroaches while in Waikiki as well. While on the patio, you'll see spiders, flies, mosquitoes, praying mantis, and geckos. Some of the group members got bit by bugs while sleeping. We used the BBQ grill out on the patio for dinner one night. You can catch the sunset and it's beautiful during a clear day. The lighting in the patio is very dim. We ended up shinning all of our phones' light to finish grilling. The location of the rental is about 45 minutes South of Kona; a tad bit further than I expected. It's definitely nice being away from all the noise but the nearest grocery store is about 20-30 minutes away depending on traffic. Make a shopping list so you're not stuck having to make multiple trips. Overall, enjoyed my stay here. Felt like home.

Great Place, But Need 4WD

4 of 5
Fabulous views perched over tide pools, and the unit is well appointed with very comfortable seating. I could live and die on the deck chairs! Very romantic setting, but also safe and fun for kids. The location is a bit remote, with only one or two really good restaurants 10 miles away in Pohoa, so visitors should plan on eating in much of the time. Even though it seems far from everything, it's just over 2 hrs back across the island to the Kona airport, and an easy day trip to volcano park or up coast past Hilo to see waterfalls. Despite recurrent rain, this is the prettier and more authentic side of the island. Snorkeling here is very good if you go out far enough. Within 100 feet of house, it's mostly smooth lava and shallow. Further out, great coral, crystal clear water, pools 4-10 feet deep, and plenty of sea life. Best when high tide coincides with calm seas in the mornings. We didn't go south (right) far because it's awkward in fins scrambling between tide pools. The only real negative here is that the road in front floods, in a few places up to 18" deep at high tide twice per day, for 4-5 hours each period, so unless you have 4wd with high clearance, you must wade about 150 feet, which is very awkward at night or if you have to carry anything. Even when not flooded, that part of the road is rough, and we damaged our rental car trying to get through. Neighbors said road won't be fixed any time soon, so you need to plan on this inconvenience.
