Lehuanani...a place to breathe.

5 of 5
Lehuanani is a peaceful, secluded, quiet getaway from life's daily grind. It is "away from it all" enough to allow you to breathe in once again what is important in life. We were fortunate to have our arrival graced by the personal check in from the owner who was so warm and welcoming. The cool air, the singing birds, and the scents of the forest capture your imagination and soul. The sights of the tall 'Ohi'a, Hapu'u, and groves of ginger surrounding the house make you pause. Our family spent many hours hiking the trails of Volcano National Park right up the road, only to come home to a cozy cottage home that begged for you to sit on the porch and just be. Our children loved exploring through the trees and plants of the yard in hopes of sights and pictures not found in our everyday life. Inside Lehuanani, the amenities were perfect for us...clean, done simply, and with elegance. If you are open, Lehuanani will touch your senses. If you are looking for a moment in life to stop and breathe....Lehuanani and the people that care for her will be your balm. Jason Amoy 'Oahu, Hawaii

Lovely relaxing stay

5 of 5
Lovely little hideaway not far off the beaten path. This was our first stay in a VRBO property and we loved it. We stayed in 2 other resort properties while in HI and this was our favorite lodging. The cottage is a nice mixture of quaint and upscale spa. It is very spacious. The bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and sitting area are all sizeable. The front porch also has a nice swing to relax on. While you could sleep up to 6 I think this is perfect for a family of 4. There is an upstairs loft with a futon that would be nice for an older child (though I would not put younger ones up there because they would have to climb a ladder). The setting is also lovely. After turning off the highway and driving for a few minutes you feel are in the country. At night the frogs serenade you to sleep. Also, you will be visited by the owner's dogs. If you are a dog lover, you will be in heaven. If you are not a dog lover (I am not) you will be by the time you leave. Bunny is one of the cutest, spunkiest little things I have ever seen. The only downsides to this property (and there are always downsides) is that light sleepers might be bothered by the frogs. A pair of earplugs (which every light sleeper should travel with) would take care of things. I myself am a light sleeper and was not bothered by the frogs. The roosters also crow in the morning but they did not bother me. Most folks will be awake anyways because of the time difference with the mainland. I would return and stay in this property in a heart beat. Amazing value for the price.

Oasis on the Big Island

5 of 5
This place is amazing. The pictures do it some justice as they were what attracted us to book it in the first place! The attention to detail in the craftsmanship is evident throughout. Someone (Kerstin) showed this place some love when they were creating it and we were glad that they have chosen to share it. It was a great hub on the north side of the island for our explorations. We stayed a week here and then a week at the Marriott Waikoloa for this, our first trip to the Big Island. If I were to do it again, I would have tacked on another few days to the trip and stayed a night in Volcanos NP area, and perhaps a couple nights in Kona so as to break up the travel to the southernmost parts of the island. But for rest and relaxation, this place couldn't be beat. Extremely comfortable and had just about all you could ask for in a place away from home. Kerstin communicated with us before and after our arrival. She met us at the property, showed us around a bit, and gave us some great information on local happenings (also there was plenty of literature at the place to peruse for local excursions/sights). I would definitely stay in this place again and will be recommending it to family and friends. Mahalo Kerstin.
