Rain Forest Getaway

4 of 5
Well equipped and a good buy! We enjoyed the covered lanai so we could sit outside even in the rain. The bed was super comfortable and loved that it was heated. Really impressed with the Guest Guide. Wonderful information and we used it to find our lunch place and our next hike. We will be back.

Perfect cottage for our stay

5 of 5
My thanks to Kerstin for sharing her lovely cottage with us! It is very modern, comfortable, clean, and tucked away in the trees, so it's private and quiet. We loved listening to the leaves rustling in the wind - which was also a big reason why A/C isn't necessary. The cottage is stocked with all of the essentials (beach towels, basic cooking tools and supplies, WiFi, etc.), and we particularly enjoyed a newer propane barbecue on the lanai. Hawi town is conveniently located, but quiet. It would be a bit of a walk to get there on a road with no shoulder, so we drove each time. The Kohala Coffee Mill was great to get our morning fix, and Bamboo has solid cocktails. I would recommend doing any major shopping at one of the larger stores along the highway though, as the local general store was pretty limited (the Island Gourmet Market in Waikoloa was our favorite). Kerstin was welcoming, friendly, and a prompt communicator throughout - a wonderful hostess! The value you get from this cottage is incredible as well - for the price, you can't beat the peace, comfort, and convenience. Highly recommended!

Great view and perfect Kona location

5 of 5
We were on the big island for three weeks and Kope Cottage was by far the best place we stayed! The view is fabulous and the house is very comfortable for a long stay, and it was fun staying on a coffee-producing estate. The house is located on a quiet corner of the property, is very comfortable with new kitchen and bath. Coming and going is very easy. Probably the thing I liked best about it was the view and ambiance sitting on the lanai. Situated on the hill above town, you have the yard, the trees and coffee plants below, a view of the hillside down to Kona and the wide Pacific and sky. With Kona's weather we saw dark storms mix with bright sunlight, and then brilliant sunsets. The property has a big pool, a hot tub, and a really great work-out room. It's also a great opportunity to have a glimpse into the coffee industry. We watched the owners roast some coffee on their vintage roaster and they explained how the rain, sun and volcanic soil make Kona's coffee sought-after. The cottage is equipped with a top-shelf coffee maker, grinder and some of the estate's coffee so you can try the first morning you're there. The house is a short drive ( say 15 min ) from town, and about that distance to several great beaches like beach 69. We had to be up early most mornings and a highlight of the stay was having coffee during the sunrise. We enjoyed watching some birds hang from and eat papayas on a tree nearby and there was a very bold cardinal signing every morning too. Don't miss this one, Randy and Atsumi are great hosts, and it's one of the best VRBOs you will find.
