More than expected!

What an amazing stay! The pictures are only indicative of the benefits of the property because it is even better than anticipated. The house is very clean, well maintained and up-to-date. Nice furniture and decorations. Miram and Scott (owners) were very responsive both prior and during the stay. Mirta was an amazing cook (optional from 8:00 - 3:00; very reasonable in cost) and very kind. Don Julio (caretaker) was also very kind and responsive to needs. The pool is absolutely perfect! Infinity-style that provides a great combination of shade and sun. Also includes a small section for infants/toddlers. The black sand beach (footwear is necessary during some of the day between the area of water flow and the front yard due to heating) is nice for walking as well as swimming. (Need to at times be careful of the undertow though.) Did a mangrove tour but undoubtably the best part of the stay was the visit and day of volunteering at the ARCAS turtle sanctuary and wildlife preservation in near-by Hawaii. (The owner of the home is the executive director.) First, it is a wonderful cause but the staff and voluteers are incredibly welcoming. If you ultimately go this home or even the Monterrico area, this comes as highly recommended. Not only can you visit or volunteer during the day, you can walk the beach at night to find turtles laying the eggs and support the cause by helping ARCAS "purchase" eggs from local collectors for preservation instead of sale for consumption. Even better is to do what my children did was fund-raise ahead of time to "sponser nests" or support their other causes (e.g. environmental education, English classes for children, scientific experiments, food and some housing for volunteers and other needs). In the end, if you think you might want to stay, I recommend you consider (1) shopping for your food ahead of time (limited availability near-by for shopping and limited options within 10 km for restaurants); and (2) have your own transportation (no taxis or tuk-tuks) and know that, though the last 2 km are well mantained, it is a dirt road. All-in-all, highly recommended and we hope to visit again!

Casa Garifuna

This was a perfect place for an extended family get-together. The house staff took care of everything extremely well, including cooking for 10. Fisherman beach their boats nearby, so seafood is readily available. The house is designed to create togetherness. The bedrooms and baths are terrific but all activities are centered upon the massive deck. Maintenance is excellent while the house still maintains a casual comfort. The surf was ideal for body-surfing or boogie-boarding. The location is very close to a lot of fun outing sites, including Apaneca (ziplines), Guayua (overeating), and El Imposible (trying to hike off the effects of overeating). The owner could not have been more helpful. Most in our party were first-timers in El Salvador and all vowed to return. That says it all.
