Stunningly Beautiful!

5 of 5
From the very beginning to the very end of our stay at Villa Dakoronia I felt as if we had 1st class treatment. Both Memo and Ioanna from the time we contacted them until we left made us feel welcomed and part of the family. This was one of the easiest reservations that I had made for our month long trip through Italy and Greece. The pictures are exactly what you get but above and beyond that which are not evident in the pictures is the love and care that they put into making their home as comfortable for their guests as if we were their family. Since I am a sticker for cleanliness I can say that this was the cleanest of all of our stays. I was impressed with the attention to detail and the exquisite way that they were able to make this home accommodate 6 people, 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 kids. Everything was designed to be compact yet functional. They picked us up from the docks and immediately introduced us to the island with ideas for both the adults and the children. The beds were the most comfortable that I had slept on in close to a month. Traditionally most beds in Europe are very firm but they made a point of making their mattresses softer and it made a huge difference in the pain in my back that I had been putting up with for the whole trip, allowing me to enjoy my vacation with less pain. The views are downright spectacular! Fira is the perfect location to experience the capital of Santorini and be able to enjoy it's beauty and all that the island has to offer. It was in the minor details that made this stay special. Coming back after long days doing tours or going to the water park and finding that Memo and Ioanna had lit up their walkway with the candles and on our balcony to welcome us back to their beautiful home made this special. Not too mention the incredible orange pound cake and tomato meatballs that Ioanna made for us herself! They made our 4 boys feel welcomed and made our stay memorable. Santorini is full of steps and can be steep in certain areas so it is wise to take only what you need. From the car to the home can be rough if you have too much luggage. I agree the entrance to the second floor is steep but if you are over 65 and can't go up the stairs there is plenty of space on the first floor. With Memo and Ioanna staying in their own home below we always had them available for any questions that we may have had. This is a must! Both the spectacular views of Santorini and the spectacular couple made this stay incredible!

Amaaing!!

Fantastic!! Met at the airport and when we arrived we couldnt believe how beautiful it all was. We stayed in the studio for 4 nights( sofa bed only if your young and fit) and 6 nights in the apartment. Both had their own character, if your staying 2 or more weeks go for the apartment as its larger and has a washing machine. For total romance the studio. All the beds were super comfortable and proper lace edged sheets ect. Bathrooms superb and everything you needed. Thira was beautiful and crazy! Met and made so many friends, especially Vivi who owns theses houses. Vivi you are awesome, i am looking to bring my boyfriend with me this year and we'll stay in the studio. Looking forward to staying here again and spending our nights in The 3 Brothers!

This is a very special place!

This is a great location for a relaxing holiday. The villa has a lovely, quiet location above the town of Thira, with views down to it and over the caldera. The villa has a nice bathroom, 2 bedrooms & kitchen. The spacious lounge is in 2 sections, with a dining table. One thing I liked is that there is lots of light on 1st floor. Our only small criticism is that there isn’t a microwave, but we managed fine without. The balcony runs along the whole of the front of the villa and down one side. You can find sun or shade, depending on how warm it is. There are always beautiful views, whatever the time of day – the lights of Thira were beautiful at night. The owners and their property manager were helpful and thoughtful and did everything they could to try to ensure that we enjoyed our holiday. The family obviously love their holiday home. For evening meals, we walked for a few minutes to the tavernas and restaurants in Thira or to Firosteffani, or we ate in, whilst looking at the magnificent view. Thira has a network of narrow walkways without traffic. There are lots of touristy shops, but also local shops for provisions & 2 nice bakeries. There are 2 interesting museums to visit with archaeological objects from Akrotiri and Ancient Thira. The archaeological excavations at Akrotiri are fascinating. It is amazing how developed the Minoan civilization was in 1700BC. There was a fresh water supply, a sewage system and the buildings were up to 5 storeys high. The area which has been excavated is covered by a roof, which would moderate the temperature in summer. We really enjoyed the walk to Oia with beautiful views over the caldera. It is about 7 miles, 11Km, and can be done in a good pair of trainers. Oia itself is very picturesque, with marble pavements, white buildings and blue roofs. Pyrgos, an old hilltop village, is nearby and is worthy of a visit. It is unspoilt and atmospheric and it too has many narrow pathways. We had a fantastic holiday here!
