For me, there are two components that make up the overall impression of a stay: the quality of the lodgings themselves, and the quality of the service received. With regard to this Athens flat, I can honestly say that five stars are not enough.
Allow me to review chronologically. To start off, Nikos provided me with information on my various options of getting to the flat from the airport- welcome info for someone on their first visit to Athens. Better yet, he offered to make arrangements for a car service (if I wanted- no pressure), which made for a stress-free arrival for four road-ugly travelers. Even though we got in somewhat late, Nikos met us at the flat personally, gave us a warm welcome and a very detailed tour, patiently explaining all the flat's myriad features. He also provides a very handy map of the area, with recommendations for good places to eat. Suffice it to say: Nikos is an exceptionally good host.
And now the flat. It is, in short, amazing. It was obviously very recently built or remodeled, as everything is completely new. The decor is tastefully modern, and it features every convenience you could conceivably need. It's really quite spacious- Me, my wife and two 18 year-old boys were all comfortably spread out amongst all the bedrooms (and the lads had their own shared bathroom, which anyone who's ever lived with a teenaged boy can attest is a huge bonus). The views from the various balconies were breathtaking, but even they paled in comparison to the view from the rooftop patio. Sipping wine while watching the sunset over Athens, the Acropolis all lit up in the foreground and the Mediterranean Sea stretching out to the horizon is...magical, really.
The flat is well-located, with many shops both large and small within, technically, walking distance. I say "technically" because the walk is almost straight up. Seriously. The flat is at the top of a mini Mount Olympus. Like, you can toss thunderbolts from the rooftop. But the good news for lazy people like me: there are always dozens of taxis at the base of the hill, and a ride back only costs around €3 with generous tip.
I really can't say enough good things about this place. Thank you, Nikos!!
