Relaxed elegance by the sea

5 of 5
The Amalias townhouse-style condominiums are truly a home-away-from-home in Greece. A little under an hour from Athens by car, the location makes you feel as though you are on one of the islands - tranquil and quiet and only a stone's throw from the crystal clear sea. The property is immaculately maintained with great attention to detail and plenty of modern conveniences, including a well-equipped full-sized kitchen. Our condo was spotless, lofty and spacious with plenty of windows to let in the beautiful light and fresh sea breezes. The pool was nice and large, and there was ample poolside seating - Amalias is not short on amenities of any kind. We also felt very safe and secure at the property. As we were meeting friends who were also staying there, we all appreciated how easy it was to socialize in the common areas while still enjoying our own private spaces as well - a great balance. We loved walking through the quiet neighborhood, too, with its great little corner market, and just a few minutes away by car is the historically important town of Marathon. The beach there is nice, and nearby Schinias is even better. Marathon is also home to the only marble dam in the world, an attraction that is definitely worth seeing. And then of course there is Athens, where you can easily spend a day of sightseeing or a night out and then come home to Amalias - your seaside retreat away from the city with all the comforts of home!

GREAT PLACE FOR A FAMILY VACATION

5 of 5
We had a big group of nine family members (all adults) at Villa Elvina in early October. We actually we're expecting ten, but one family member was unable to make it at the last minute. However, I think that nine was the perfect number for the house, and everyone had a comfortable bed. Others have already described the beauty of the location, the attractive house and amenities, and the attentiveness and hospitality of the owners, so there's nothing more that I can add other than concurring with their comments. The house is located very close to Chania, which has an airport with flights to Athens. Use this airport if you can - the drive from the airport in Heraklion is close to three hours. We found that we could combine a restful seven days with plenty of things to do on the western end of Crete. There are good tavernas within walking distance of the house and a larger town with ATMs, grocery stores, and bakeries a short distance away (Kissamos). Don't miss the nearby winery, the nice beaches on the southwest corner of Crete; and the many interesting hill towns. October was a great time to visit. The tourist season crowds are gone, the weather is warm during the day and very comfortable at night, and the sea temp was perfect. We ended our stay with home-made pizzas using the brick oven on the back patio. It was a very memorable vacation.

Dream Vacation

4 of 5
Photo galleries on the internet usually portray vacation destinations in a much more appealing way than the actual real life experience, once you arrive there. That is definitely not the case with Villa Amalia. Reality surpasses any possible expectations The landscape is simply breathtaking. You constantly find yourself surrounded by acres of uninterrupted forests and herb gardens that co-exist, side by side, with the seashore. Half of the bedrooms in these premises, fully and recently renovated, offer the above-mentioned view that is usually complimented in the mornings by the dolphins of the area, swimming in full serenity. The hospitality is unique. Deprived of any kind of grand gestures, the house keeping maintains its traditional and discreet identity, never failing to fulfill the needs of the guests. Highly anticipated and sought after, it can only be described as genuine greek. We visited Villa Amalia in June and we kept thinking that it would definitely make an amazing winter destination as well. We are looking forward to having this experience soon again, any time of the year.
